This is for the recruitment of two full-time Senior Cancer Data Specialist positions. One permanent and one temporary (until November 2026).

What you'll be doing
The Senior Cancer Data Specialist is responsible for the design, development and delivery of data initiatives and projects across the full data lifecycle from ingestion and engineering through to analytics and reporting within the Cancer Services and Information Division. The role works flexibly across diverse data functions to provide high-quality, reliable, and insightful data solutions that enable improved cancer services, inform decision-making, and support delivery of Cancer Plan objectives. The role also supports projects and initiatives involving artificial intelligence, natural language processing and machine learning where required.

In addition to base salary:
- 12% superannuation
- 4 weeks annual leave (plus 17.5% leave loading)
- 10 days sick leave
- 40 hours per week which include accrual of monthly Allocated Day Off (ADO) x 12 per year.

Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in health information management, statistics, data science, informatics or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated relevant professional experience and training.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to critically analyse and interpret clinical and population health data using tools such as R, Python, SQL, Power BI and R Shiny.
- Proven ability to design and implement process improvements, including automating manual tasks, optimising data workflows, enhancing infrastructure for scalability and managing data from diverse sources.
- Experience in agile project management and awareness of current developments across the data ecosystem, including data engineering, analytics and data science approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and present insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior executives.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience producing high-quality technical and non-technical documentation and presenting complex information in accessible ways.
- Knowledge of health-related data collections and systems, particularly oncology data and cancer registries, including their strengths and limitations, alongside a strong understanding of the NSW and Australian health systems.
