Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

CAYLUS services remote communities across Central Australia to reduce the supply, demand and harm caused by volatile substance use. CAYLUS also supports various community projects that support the health, safety and wellbeing of young people.

This position will work strategically with CAYLUS managers, communities and relevant stakeholders to:


• Manage the administration of two community-led programs in the Warlpiri Region


• Manage a multi-site infrastructure project, upgrading facilities and assets across the CAYLUS service area.

The position will be required to travel to remote communities and work independently and proactively to oversee these projects.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities


• Manage the administration of Warlpiri Programs – Mampu Maninjaku and Pirrjirdi Maninjaku Kurlangu, in partnership with Southern Tanami Kurdiji Indigenous Corporation, the Australian Childhood Foundation, and NOUS Group


• Manage the CAYLUS ABA Infrastructure Project across multiple remote sites, in collaboration with the externally appointed Project Manager.


• Work with remote communities in CAYLUS service area to support the development and capability strengthening of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations


• Provide specialist advice on policy matters and contribute to the development of new policies and procedures.


• Lead reporting requirements across various programs – both written and verbal reports as required.


• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.


• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.


• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.


• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required


• Formal qualifications in a relevant field.


• Extensive experience working in remote communities in the NT or a similar setting.


• At least 5 years' experience in a senior project management role.


• Extensive experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.


• Experience in Strategic Planning and Monitoring and Evaluation.


• Ability to work in an informed, appropriate, and sensitive manner with Aboriginal people.


• Ability to travel to remote locations and stay for up to 4 days at a time.


• Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively, seeking input from the CAYLUS Managers at appropriate junctures.


• Strong skills in collecting and analysing data and preparing reports.


• Experience in the facilitation of group training.


• Knowledge of youth issues, communities, geography, and resources in the region.


• Current NT Drivers Licence – with a willingness to undertake training to learn to drive a manual vehicle if not yet capable.


• Current NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired


• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.


• An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
