Your role

The Senior Analyst - NGO Accountability supports the delivery of financial reviews, audits, and assurance activities for funded NGO service providers within the Department of Communities and Justice. Working under the guidance of the Manager, NGO Accountability, the role contributes to the annual accountability process, provides financial analysis and advice to contract managers, and helps ensure compliance with funding agreements.

The Senior Analyst collaborates with key stakeholders, to strengthen financial oversight frameworks and support fraud and corruption risk management. The role involves reviewing financial reports, assisting in the coordination of audits, and contributing to initiatives that promote transparency, governance, and continuous improvement across funded programs.

What you'll do

The Senior Analyst - NGO Accountability plays a key role in supporting financial reviews, audits, and assurance activities for funded NGO service providers within the Department of Communities and Justice. Reporting to the Manager, NGO Accountability, the position contributes to the delivery of the annual accountability process, provides financial insights and advice to contract managers to support compliance with funding agreements.

The role works collaboratively internal and external stakeholders to strengthen financial oversight frameworks and assist in managing fraud and corruption risks. Regular responsibilities include analysing financial information and reports, supporting the coordination of audits, financial accountability support and advice to contract managers and key stakeholders, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at improving transparency, governance, and financial accountability across funded programs.

This role sits within the NGO Accountability team of the Partnerships directorate. The Partnerships directorate builds strong relationships between DCJ and its NGO service partners. The directorate creates NGO policies to improve commissioning, contracting, and risk management for the $2 billion investment in the NGO sector. It is a centre of excellence in commissioning, grants administration, card operations and innovative investments. Partnerships also support NGO stakeholders, government partners, and internal teams.

The NGO Accountability team provides financial accountability oversight, including specialist financial advice and support to contract managers. The team undertakes risk management of contracts and prepares analytical reports on accountability data, to influence decision making and formulation of relevant policies. It also undertakes financial reviews and audits to ensure compliance with funding agreements and supports continuous improvement initiatives for financial accountability.

What we're looking for

The Senior Analyst, NGO Accountability role is a finance or accounting professional with experience in nonprofit financial management and prudential oversight.

In addition to the essential requirements outlines in the role description, the ideal candidate will:

  • Possess an understanding of accounting standards, risk management frameworks, and audit practices, particularly within government-funded environments.
  • Demonstrates advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities, and a commitment to integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Holds a relevant tertiary qualification, such as a degree in Finance or Accounting and/or equivalent knowledge in a related discipline, along with a demonstrated commitment to professional development and the ability to navigate complex, sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion.
