Your role

The role prepares statutory Early Close and Year-end financial statements in accordance with current accounting standards and other statutory requirements and manages the agency's accounts payable and receivable activities.

Additionally the role provides expert analysis, advice and recommendations across a range of complex financial issues; develops and implements financial policies, procedures and systems to address organisation wide issues to meet the agency's statutory and NSW Treasury reporting obligations; serves as the primary point of contact for coordinating and providing responses to audit queries; and maintains related supporting documentation to meet Audit Office of NSW and NSW Treasury requirements.

What you'll do

As part of the Finance team, your key duties will be as follows:

  • Prepare and review Early Close and Year-end statutory annual financial statements including the associated supporting work papers
  • Facilitate the Early Close and Year-end General Ledger close-offs, ensuring accruals and period-end journals have been processed correctly and on time
  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable functions, overseeing staff workloads and deliverables while fostering the development off skills and capabilities of staff
  • Undertake analysis and provide timely, expert financial information and advice to the Associate Director Finance on complex financial management issues, including identifying and facilitating improvements to financial reporting processes
  • Coordinate timely submission of financial management reports in Treasury format, ensuring compliance with reporting standards and submission deadlines, and coordinate other financial returns required by Treasury
  • Oversee and coordinate the Agency's response to audits undertaken by the Audit Office of NSW
  • Prepare briefing notes, reports, accounting policies and procedures, and other material as required by the Associate Director Finance on issues of significance relating to financial accounting and reporting

  • Review General Ledger Balance Sheet reconciliations

  • Review fixed asset registers and asset reports for financial reporting

You will also work as part of a team of 5 in a supportive environment where hybrid working arrangements are available.

What we're looking for

  • Degree Qualification in Accounting, Commerce or similar discipline and studying towards CPA/CA (or equivalent) full member status, or extensive equivalent experience
  • Proven expertise in preparing statutory financial statements within a government or large organisation
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, especially when reviewing financial data
  • Sound knowledge of accounting standards, Treasury policies, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex financial information to varied audiences
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build productive relationships
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach and the ability to work across a shared services model
  • Experience in the public sector is desirable
