Ester Restaurant and Bar are seeking an experienced Cook to join our incredible team on a full-time and permanent basis.

We are a renowned establishment celebrated for its innovative approach to modern Australian cuisine. Our menu is centred around a wood-fired oven, delivering dishes that highlight local and sustainable ingredients. We pride ourselves on creating a warm and intimate dining experience, complemented by a curated selection of natural wines.

You will be responsible for all aspects of running your section properly in a fast-paced, stressful environment. You will be part of a tight-knit team and will excel at providing exceptional attention to detail.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting in planning menus, working with seasonal produce
  • Ordering of produce and ingredients from specialist suppliers
  • Receiving deliveries and checking for quality
  • Storing received goods accordingly to health and safety practices
  • Preparing the wood-fired oven, maintaining heat for service, and following procedures for the end of service
  • Working with a Hibachi (Japanese charcoal) grill, Thermomix and Combi oven
  • Covering all aspects of prepping & working a section for service.
  • Preparing, cooking, and seasoning food as instructed by the Head Chef
  • Plating food and adhering to instructed portion control and our high standard of presentation
  • Adjusting dishes to meet any requested dietary requirements upon request.
  • Preparing staff meals on a rostered basis
  • Provide direction and training to other kitchen staff as needed.

You will have at least a relevant Certificate III with at least two years of on-the-job training, or a relevant Certificate IV, or at least three (3) years of equivalent experience in lieu of formal qualifications. You should also have at least one year of experience, preferably working in a similar high-end restaurant environment; equivalent experience will also be strongly considered.

In addition to the above essential experience and qualifications, and due to the nature of the restaurant and requirements of the role, our ideal candidate should also demonstrate proficiency and have experience in cooking with a woodfired oven, fermenting of vinegars and kombuchas, and preparing and baking sourdough breads.
