Our Purpose

At Xero, we're here to help supercharge small businesses. We do this by automating routine tasks, surfacing actionable insights and connecting businesses with the right data, advisors and apps. When that happens, we're not only making life better for small business, we'll be building a stronger economy that can change the world.

Joining the Payments Team means stepping into one of the fastest-growing and most strategically critical areas of the business.

The payments space is evolving rapidly, presenting unique opportunities for innovation and impact. As part of this team, you'll work on initiatives that directly impact the financial success and efficiency of small businesses, gain hands-on experience in the payments domain and build a strong career foundation with exposure to complex, large-scale product challenges

Contribute to a high-profile, visible area of the company, opening doors to accelerated career growth. This is a chance to make your mark in a division where ideas quickly turn into tangible outcomes and where your work will help shape the future of payments at Xero.

What you'll do

  • Strategise Product Vision: Lead the strategic framing of products within Xero's overall strategy and future objectives.
  • Drive Customer-Centricity: Lead customer engagement, research, and insight collection to embed customer data in decision-making and risk assessment.
  • Problem Identification & Solution Framing: Identify valuable customer problems and comprehensively frame solutions for testing and refinement, even in complex environments.
  • Product Line Strategy & Resourcing: Develop and secure funding and resources for the product line strategy.
  • Oversee Product Delivery & Launch: Lead the development of product roadmaps, release strategies, and ensure effective product launches.
  • Manage Product Risks: Take responsibility for managing non-functional risks (security, privacy, compliance, etc.) and lead trade-off decisions.
  • Monitor & Optimise Performance: Consistently review, monitor, and analyze commercial and customer results, leading iterative improvements to existing products.
  • Guide End-to-End Product Lifecycle: Manage products across their entire lifecycle, from launch to sunset, ensuring continuity and strategic alignment.
  • Develop Product Practice & Team: Contribute to developing and implementing product practices, and train, coach, and recruit team members.

What you'll bring with you

  • 4+ years of product management experience, including improving customer workflows and learning through experimentation.
  • Strong Stakeholder Management – Ability to build trusted relationships with a range of internal teams (engineering, design, compliance, operations) and external partners (e.g. payment providers). This includes proactively identifying dependencies, engaging stakeholders early, and keeping them aligned with clear updates and communication.
  • Project Management Skills – Proven ability to manage complex initiatives under tight timelines. This includes balancing trade-offs, mitigating risks, and ensuring delivery against compliance-driven deadlines.
  • Sense of Urgency & Fresh Perspective – We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running, bring a new point of view, and challenge the status quo in constructive ways.
  • Passion for Learning Payments – Direct payments experience is an advantage but not essential. What matters most is a genuine curiosity and motivation to quickly learn and grow in the payments space.
