We are currently seeking applications for a Speech Pathologist to join our Allied Health Team on a Permanent Part Time basis, working 30 hours per fortnight. The successful candidate will also be allowed to arrange their own schedules
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team the Speech Pathologist (SP) provides quality, appropriate and relevant Speech Pathology (SP) services to meet the needs of Brightwater Care Group's clients based primarily South of River. The SP's role is to assess the client, determine individual capabilities and set realistic goals, facilitating the achievement of these goals while optimising functional performance and client preferences in relation to dysphagia and mealtime management, communication disorders, augmentative communication and oral health within a residential or rehabilitation setting or in the community.

Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Use SP skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised, outcome-based care within an interdisciplinary team and in partnership with the client and their representatives and other relevant stakeholders. This includes dysphagia and mealtime management, communication disorders, augmentative communication and oral health
- Complete Brightwater documentation to the required standard, and actively collaborate with the client and the rest of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the care plans for clients are relevant and appropriate
- Communicate with clients and their representatives in regard to identifying the client's individualised goals and preferences, developing the client's dysphagia and/or communication plan, answering questions, facilitating relevant education and training, and providing information about the SP recommendations, showing respect for the individuals
- Identify areas for improvement and uses a continuous quality improvement approach to problem solving. This includes collaborating with colleagues, facilitating quality improvement activities, acting as a change agent in response to agreed changes
- Facilitate training and assessment of staff in dysphagia competencies
- Actively contribute to the creation and maintenance of the home/social environment in which emotional, physical, spiritual and cultural needs are met
To be successful for the role, you will possess the following attributes:
- Membership, or eligibility for membership, with Speech Pathology Australia (active membership preferred)
- Strong commitment to providing, and the capability to deliver, safe high quality care
- Demonstrated experience and competency as a SP to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in various environments with a diverse range of people
- Strong person-centred skills in communicating and engaging with clients with high support needs including cognitive impairment, brain injury, and dementia
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise tasks, work effectively under pressure, problem solve and meet deadlines
- Working knowledge of occupational safety and health legislation; and where relevant, the Aged Care Act (1997); and/or Disability Services Commission Standards (1988)
- First Aid Certificate less than 3 years old
- Possess a current Western Australian 'C' Class Driver's Licence
- Current satisfactory National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 12 months)
- Up to date Flu Vaccination
