Primary objective

To lead the provision of specialist land tenure information, and services, in relation to land and / or significant land developments,

which may have Native Title or Aboriginal Land Rights implications. This involves complex investigative research, as well as

ensuring the development and management of associated data in geospatial databases or systems.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Manage and undertake complex research on and evaluation of current and historical land tenure.

  2. Co-ordinate and provide specialist advice and services on current and historical land tenure issues, as well as associated policies

and practices.

  1. Administer the preparation of land tenure reports and associated geospatial data to assist with decision-making in either legal

hearings or proceedings, as well as major land development projects.

  1. Oversee; maintain the integrity and ongoing improvement of comprehensive textual and geospatial databases or systems for

land tenure reports, records, geospatial information and plans.

  1. Lead the Land Tenure History team to achieve business objectives.

  2. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with clients and stakeholders to ensure service delivery is of a high quality and

meets their needs and expectations.

  1. Effectively participate in the Survey team, local and national working groups, by contributing innovative ideas and solutions to

modernise, digitise and visualise land tenure information.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated ability to provide specialist advice and services on current and historical land tenure matters.

  1. Proven ability to lead and / or undertake complex research activities, critically analyse, prepare reports and geospatial data

(including plans) involving land tenure information.

  1. Developed operational ability to manage geospatial data related to current, historical, and investigative datasets in geospatial

applications, systems or databases.

  1. Well-developed project management and report writing skills with the ability to plan, implement and report on a diverse range

of activities in an environment requiring multi-tasking and adherence to deadlines.

  1. Sound level of interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate, mediate and collaborate with various authorities, key stakeholders,

people of diverse cultures, and industry professionals.

  1. Working knowledge of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act, Native Title Act, Land Acquisition Act, Pastoral Land

Act, Crown Lands Act and their impact on land tenure and administration.

  1. Established ability to lead a team and achieve outcomes; includes capability to supervise and develop staff, manage work

priorities and output performance in a high-pressure environment.

Desirable

1. A qualification in surveying, geographical information management or systems, spatial sciences or land related discipline, or

relevant equivalent experience.
