About the Role
An opportunity currently exists for an experienced physiotherapist to join the physiotherapy department on a casual basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing high quality, overall physiotherapy management to patients in the Neuroscience units of the Fitzroy campus of SVHM and other tasks as directed/delegated on weekends and public holidays. Shifts are 4 hrs in duration.
Applications from current grade two physiotherapists or suitably experienced grade one physiotherapists will be considered. Relevant postgraduate qualifications would also be highly regarded.
The classification for this role will range from VB1 - VB4 ($45.67 per hour - $52.49) plus a casual loading of 25%.
Duties include
Provide appropriate clinical management for all referred patients in the Neuroscience units.
Communicate assessment and treatment outcomes to nursing, medical and other Allied Health staff via documentation.
Provide a tertiary level of consultancy in outlying wards when requested.
Provide supervision for other weekend physiotherapy staff and Allied Health Assistants, as required.
Communicate accurate handover information for ongoing physiotherapy management for all patients.
Your contribution

Recent physiotherapy experience in Neurosciences.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and successfully as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to manage efficiently and effectively a clinical caseload across the designated service.

Acute Neurosciences Senior, Lana Maxwell,
This casual position is located at the Fitzroy Campus of St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, particularly on the Neurosciences inpatient wards; and cares for a diverse range of patients who are admitted under the Neurosurgery, Stroke and Neurology and other units as directed/delegated.
POSITION PURPOSE
Accountable to the Physiotherapy Manager and responsible to the designated Team Leader, this Grade 2 position is responsible for providing high quality, overall physiotherapy management to the patients on units managed by the designated work area.
The role also entails supervision of other weekend Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Assistants and taking a leadership role as required.
POSITION DUTIES
The delivery of the highest standard of physiotherapy services to the patients at St. Vincent's Health as directed incorporating the mission and values of the Sisters of Charity:
- Provide appropriate clinical management for all patients on units managed by the designated work area as required.
- Assessment, planning and treatment including education for all patients.
- Communicate assessment and treatment outcomes to nursing, medical and other Allied Health staff via documentation and ward rounds.
- Provide a tertiary level of consultancy in outlying wards when requested.
- Ensure appropriate coverage of physiotherapy weekend services across Fitzroy campus.
- Participate in performance management as required.
- Provide supervision for other weekend physiotherapy staff and Allied Health Assistants, as required.
- Communicate accurate handover information for ongoing physiotherapy management for all patients.
- Ensure continuous Quality Improvement through high quality work practices.
- Participate in department quality improvement activities that involve the weekend service.
- Active participation in professional on going education and review of current literature.
INCUMBENT OBLIGATIONS
General- Perform duties of the position to best of their ability and to a standard acceptable to SVHM.

- Collaborate and clearly communicate with patients/clients and the healthcare team.
- Participate in clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement activities as part of day-to-day work.
- Ensure consumers receive information in an appropriate and accessible format.
- Actively support consumers to make informed decisions about their treatment and ongoing care.
- Ensure consumers are aware of their rights responsibilities and how to provide feedback.
- Protect the health and safety of self and others, complying with all health and safety related policies, procedures and directions
- Complete required Fire and Emergency Training annually
- Complete required Workplace Culture and Equity Training annually
- Attend general hospital orientation within 3 months of commencement
- As required, comply with fit-testing and PPE requirements
- Participate in reporting and analysis of safety and quality data including risks or hazards,
- Report any hazards, near misses and incidents (regardless of whether an injury occurred or not) into Riskman
- Identify and report any variance to expected standard and minimising the risk of adverse outcomes

Formal Education:
- Physiotherapy Degree
- Short postgraduate courses in relevant areas of physiotherapy
- Postgraduate qualification/s in relevant area/s of physiotherapy (desirable)
- Membership of the APA and special interest group in relevant area (desirable)
AHPRA Registration
Knowledge & Experience:
- Recent experience in and knowledge of physiotherapy management in an acute health care setting, particularly neurosurgery, stroke and neurology
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
