YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE
Grade 1 Physiotherapist (Graduate Program 2026)
- Full-Time, Fixed-Term Role (26/1/26 - 24/1/27)
- 80 hours per fortnight, including an ADO every month
An exciting opportunity exists for a 2025 new graduate physiotherapist to join the Peter Mac Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Physiology, and Podiatry Department.
This role offers the chance to work in a world-class oncology setting, rotating through medical oncology, surgical oncology, and haematology wards while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality acute physiotherapy services to Peter Mac patients.
- Provide patient-centred care within the specialist area of oncology.
- Assist in discharge planning, goal setting, and developing ongoing care plans.
- Implement and evaluate treatment plans, maintaining accurate clinical documentation.
- Support departmental professional development, research, and quality initiatives to ensure evidence-based best practices.
- Contribute to the outpatient lymphoedema screening service.
The Successful Candidate Will Possess:
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) with current AHPRA registration.
- Completed physiotherapist entry level qualification in 2025
- Strong clinical reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Passion for evidence-based, patient-focused physiotherapy care.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Remuneration as per Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement Grade 1: Year 1 VA3 $70, full time equivalent) to Year 5 VA7 to $85, full-time equivalent) dependent on candidate experience. To be discussed with Hiring Manager.

Education
Master of Physiotherapy Bachelor of Physiotherapy Skills
Essential Requirments
- Tertiary qualification in Physiotherapy (Bachelor, Masters or equivalent)
- Current AHPRA physiotherapy registration
- Demonstrated interest in acute cancer care
- Excellent written communication skills including computer literacy
- Advanced level of interpersonal and conflict management skills
- Demonstrated organisational, time management, planning and priority setting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development, continued education and evidence based practice
- Reliable, flexible and conscientious approach to patient management and workplace issues
Desirable Requirements
- Ability to consult and adapt treatments to the special needs of oncology patients
- Experience in an acute cancer care setting
- Experience in: prescribing, managing and delivering individual and group patient exercise programs; managing and prescribing equipment; gait assessments and functional rehabilitation
- Lymphoedema management qualifications or experience
- Relevant peak body membership (APA, COSA, ALA, etc.)
- Valid Victorian driver's license

1. Deliver high quality, appropriate physiotherapy care and education to cancer patients
- Maintains a varied clinical load of approximately 90%
- Triage, prioritise and manage referrals
- Willing to rotate into all areas of clinical care
- Screening and risk stratification to ensure the safety and appropriateness of interventions
- Accepts and feeds back on referrals in accordance with departmental policy
- Conducts appropriate assessment, treatment, discharge planning and treatment review
- Develops rehabilitation and discharge goals with the patient, their supports and the multi-disciplinary team
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings and patient care planning
- Conforms to the established multi-disciplinary team aims for each patient in assigned streams
- Reports treatment plan, patient progress and outcomes to the treating team
- Facilitates referral as indicated within the multi-disciplinary team and to outside agencies for ongoing care
- Effective discharge planning
- Family and community liaison for care planning
- Takes action to facilitate community linkages required for safe patient discharge and rehabilitation and ensures all referrals and relevant follow-up are completed
- Evaluates and records outcomes of treatment
- Accepts direction & supervision from senior staff
- Requests assistance or guidance when required in order to maintain treatment standards
2. Indirect care
- Ensures the safe operation and maintenance of equipment used in programs or provided to patients for home or ward use
- Achieves a satisfactory standard in all necessary staff competencies
- Records interventions, outcomes, incidents, clinical handover, data and statistics accurately and in a timely manner
- Successful completion of physiotherapy induction and competencies
- Meets key performance indicators (KPIs) set for caseload targets and project deliverables
- Participates in monthly supervision and regular appraisal with allocated supervisor
- Participates in 'rotational review' each rotation
- Participates in and presents according to in-service roster
- Develops, maintains and shares clinical expertise
- Participation in education programs, quality assurance and research activities such as outcome measurement and data collection
- Conducts and completes at least one quality activity per rotation
- Responsible and accountable for consumable and equipment usage (including tracking, reporting stock levels and invoicing)
- Maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Maintains professional development log and alerts seniors of resource and development needs
- Supports students, assistants and volunteers
- Maintains and updates registration qualification annually
