Mechanical Fitter

The role will be primarily based at Garden Island Defence Precinct and our Alexandria Workshop, with works also carried in the Sydney region. There may be the occasional requirement to travel to remote or offshore destinations for testing and service work for short durations, which will be remunerated on top of your hourly rate.

The Company

Sofraco are a premium engineering service supplier to Defence, Marine and Commercial industries. We are a small, energetic and dynamic team covering multiple engineering disciplines and trades. We have over 35 years of experience and are highly regarded in our field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and repair shipboard machinery including hydraulic & pneumatic equipment, winches, lifting gear and pump sets.
  • Inspection and testing of fire systems
  • Inspection and testing of diesel generators
  • Assist with fault identification, troubleshooting & condition reporting
  • Pressure testing of valves and hydraulic components
  • Load testing of winches and lifting equipment
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures which include completing JSEA's, permits to work, Isolations and Risk analysis
  • Provide brief notes & photographs of maintenance completed.

Key Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Fitter (Australian trade recognized)
  • Minimum Experience 5 years
  • Hydraulics experience (desirable)
  • Diesel Engine experience (desirable)
  • Pump repair experience (desirable)
  • Marine or Offshore experience (desirable)
  • Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents required for security requirements.
  • Strong safety experience.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Willing to obtain national police certificate for security
  • Willing to complete drug and alcohol testing
  • Willing to complete medical testing for basic health, mobility and fitness
  • Comfortable working independently with the ability to operate and report remotely
  • Other tickets (e.g. Confined Space, Working Safely at Heights, Rigging, EWP, forklift) would be advantageous.
