Arup is seeking a Senior Urban Planner for a 12 month contract in its Sydney office. This role will lead strategic planning workstreams across multidisciplinary projects in policy, transport, energy, environment, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will bring expertise in the NSW planning system, strong project delivery skills, and a collaborative approach to shaping sustainable urban outcomes.

The Opportunity

  • Lead planning inputs across urban, regional, and socio-economic projects, integrating sustainability and policy insight.
  • Represent Arup in internal and external meetings, working directly with clients to understand and respond to complex urban challenges.
  • Contribute to business development through preparation of proposals and tender responses.
  • Guide and support junior team members, contributing to their development and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Manage planning deliverables in line with Arup's Quality Management System, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.

Is this role right for you?

  • Minimum 8 years of experience and a tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the NSW planning framework, policies, and guidelines.
  • Proven experience in urban planning, city economics, and transport planning within a consulting environment.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to mentor junior staff and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
