The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager – People & Culture, this is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of
People Services, Payroll Governance and Compliance, HR Systems, and People Data & Analytics
across the organisation. Leading a team of around 22 professionals, this role plays a key part in shaping how People Services delivers value to the business today and into the future.

The successful candidate will drive process improvement, compliance, and digital enablement while fostering a strong customer service culture. You will lead the transformation of payroll and people operations, including a
major system transition over the next 18 months
, and play a critical role in positioning Hastings Deering for a future
shared services model.
Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team across Payroll, People Services, HR Systems, and Data & Analytics.
  • Ensure strong governance, compliance, and risk management across payroll and employment legislation.
  • Oversee high-quality, efficient delivery of all employee lifecycle and people service transactions.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Audit, Digital, and Group People & Culture teams to ensure alignment, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Drive system optimisation and transformation across Chris21, Workday, and associated platforms.
  • Champion continuous improvement, standardisation, and digital innovation to enhance efficiency and user experience.
  • Build trusted relationships across the organisation and represent People Services in internal and external governance forums.

About You
You are an experienced
People Services, Payroll, or HR Operations leader
with a strong background in large, complex environments. You bring deep expertise in payroll governance, compliance, and systems, combined with a passion for improving processes and building capability in your teams.

You are strategic yet hands-on, with the ability to balance transformation and service delivery in equal measure. Your leadership style is collaborative and empowering, and you take pride in creating structure, efficiency, and engagement through change. Experience with
Workday
or similar HRIS platforms and prior involvement in system transitions or shared services environments will be highly regarded.
