Carers SA is the peak body for Carers in South Australia, advocating for greater recognition and improved support. We provide services and support for Carers of all ages and is the Statewide lead Carer Gateway provider.

About the Role
As a Young Carer Connector, you will be the first point of contact for Young Carers aged 5–26. You'll assess needs, guide them through the registration and assessment process, and connect them to appropriate supports and services. Using a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, you'll provide age-appropriate individual and group support, advocate for their needs, and work collaboratively with families, schools, and service providers to improve outcomes for Young Carers.
Key responsibilities (not limited to):
- Complete Young Carer intakes, registrations, and assessments in a respectful and supportive way
- Connect Young Carers to the right services and supports, based on identified needs and goals
- Provide individual and group support tailored to age and developmental stages
- Advocate for Young Carers by engaging with schools, service providers, and community organisations
- Organise referrals and supports including counselling, respite, coaching, and peer programs
- Maintain accurate case notes and documentation in line with service guidelines
- Build positive relationships with local service providers and referral pathways
- Promote awareness of Young Carers and the challenges they face within the community
- Ensure practice is child-safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based at all times
About You
You are a compassionate and resourceful professional with experience working alongside children and young people, including those with complex needs. With strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to child safety, you build genuine connections, empower young people to achieve their goals, and advocate for their voices to be heard. You thrive in both independent and collaborative settings, bringing empathy, professionalism, and a strength-based approach to supporting Young Carers and their families.
To succeed, you'll have:
- Experience in youth or community services
- Proven understanding of child protection, developmental trauma, and youth engagement
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills
- Strong organisational, data reporting and IT proficiency
- The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Highly regarded:
- Experience working with or advocating for Young Carers
- Knowledge of relevant supports and challenges facing Young Carers
Successful candidates will also need:
- A current Working with Children Check, National Police Check, and a SA Driver's License
- Current SA Driver's License
- Be prepared to undertake Child Safe Environments – Through Their Eyes training (costs covered by Carers SA)
- Current First Aid Certificate or be willing to complete the course
