Australian Associated Press Cadetship Program

Australian Associated Press, Australia's independent national newswire, has been producing accurate, reliable and objective news content for 90 years.  AAP is a not-for-profit media company trusted to deliver factual, public-interest journalism to more than 400 news media outlets in Australia, and their audiences.

AAP is offering multiple one-year, paid editorial cadetships to exceptional candidates.

The Sydney-based program commences in February 2026, providing thorough training in contemporary journalism and a wide variety of reporting experiences.

The Program

AAP cadets learn the essential skills of journalism, covering everything from sports and politics to finance and courts. They gain practical experience in a fast-paced newsroom, with mentorship from seasoned journalists.

The successful candidates will learn how to develop strong story ideas, conduct digital research and verification, create multimedia assets, and write with clarity and impact.

Throughout the 12-month program, cadets continuously contribute content to the newswire, providing them with direct, operational experience at the centre of the national news cycle.
