About the Role

As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Maintenance Officer at New Frankston Hospital, you'll play a vital role in maintaining critical healthcare infrastructure. Working as part of our Honeywell contract team, you'll ensure the hospital environment remains safe, functional, and compliant for patients, staff, and visitors. This position offers the opportunity to develop specialised healthcare facility maintenance skills while contributing to essential health services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine maintenance tasks including carpentry, general repairs, and facility upkeep to hospital standards
  • Acting as the key coordinator and communicator with hospital staff for all maintenance activities
  • Managing equipment upkeep, furniture movement, and storage logistics in clinical environments
  • Supporting hospital functions and setups for events, examinations, and operational needs
  • Responding promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs
  • Monitoring building systems to ensure operational efficiency and patient safety
  • Conducting daily safety inspections and maintaining 100% PPE compliance
  • Working collaboratively with tradespeople, contractors, and healthcare professionals
  • Assisting with preventive maintenance schedules and accurate record-keeping
  • Contributing to Quality, Environmental, and OH&S management systems
  • Supporting our commitment to cultural safety and inclusive practices across the hospital
What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who brings:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage (Confirmation of Aboriginality required)
  • Trade background or qualification
  • Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance
  • Current Working with Children Check (we'll support you to obtain if needed)
  • Current National Criminal History Police Check (we'll support you to obtain if needed)
  • Current driver's licence and reliable transport
  • Strong and effective communication skills with a professional, approachable demeanor
  • Computer literacy (email, word processing, spreadsheets)
  • Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact proactively with hospital staff at all levels
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency repairs and urgent maintenance issues
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards

Desirable qualifications (we'll support you to obtain):

  • Experience in healthcare or educational environments
  • First Aid qualification
  • Scissor Lift Licence
  • Working at Heights qualification
  • White Card
