WA Nickel Student Casual Internships - Real-World Experience in Mining and Resources

Are you entering your penultimate or final year of university in 2026 and curious about how your skills could contribute to the future of mining? Our Casual Intern Program at WA Nickel offers a unique paid opportunity to gain hands-on experience, work on real projects, and learn from some of the best in the industry — all while continuing your studies.
WA Nickel is currently in temporary suspension, creating a rare environment where you'll be exposed to complex, strategic challenges not typically available in standard internships. Whether it's preparing for a potential restart, planning for closure, or supporting transition activities, you'll be part of something meaningful.

What You'll be Responsible For
As a Casual Intern, you'll:
- Work up to two shifts per week for up to 12 months, with flexible scheduling to suit your study commitments.
- Be based in either our Perth office, Kwinana or Kalgoorlie (for students living and studying in that region).
- Collaborate with experienced professionals on projects aligned to your field of study.
- Gain exposure to operations in temporary suspension and learn about BHP's uncompromising commitment to safety.
We're welcoming students from a wide range of disciplines, including:
- Engineering (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Communication Electronics, Geotechnical, Mining)
- Health & Safety (Health Science, Occupational Hygiene, Safety)
- Environmental Science, Geochemistry, Conservation Biology, Hydrogeology, Project Management
What You'll Bring to the RoleTo be successful, you'll be:
- A penultimate or final year student in 2026, currently enrolled in a relevant tertiary qualification.
- Enthusiastic, reliable and eager to learn.
- A strong communicator and effective team player.
