Position Purpose

We are seeking an experienced Vessel Manager / Skipper to join luxury vessel management company. This pivotal role combines hands-on vessel command with management responsibilities, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of vessels in the 65–85 ft range.

The successful candidate will oversee vessel performance, crew leadership, and maintenance standards while ensuring vessels remain in pristine condition for client use. This is a dynamic role requiring both seagoing expertise and organisational leadership, based primarily in Sydney with seasonal work in the Whitsundays.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Vessel Operations
  • Safely skipper vessels ranging from 65–85 ft in accordance with maritime law and company guidelines.
  • Conduct voyage planning, berthing, embarkation, and disembarkation procedures.
  • Maintain detailed logs of operations, voyages, and safety compliance.
  • Travel with vessels as required, ensuring operational continuity between Sydney and the Whitsundays.
Vessel Management & Maintenance
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of vessel management, including general maintenance, washdowns, and upkeep.
  • Carry out minor mechanical repairs and coordinate external trades for larger works.
  • Manage budgets and maintenance schedules to ensure optimal vessel performance.
  • Ensure vessels are presented to a consistent luxury standard at all times.
Crew Leadership & Staff Management
  • Supervise junior crew and oversee training, rostering, and performance.
  • Effectively manage contractors and trades during refits, services, and repairs.
  • Maintain strong workplace culture, professionalism, and safety awareness.
Administration & Reporting
  • Prepare and manage operational documentation, maintenance records, and compliance logs.
  • Use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and/or Google apps for reporting and communications.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to the Director/General Manager.

Key Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years' boating experience, including experience operating 65–85 ft vessels.
  • Minimum Standard Boat Licence (essential).
  • Strong mechanical background and proven hands-on maintenance capability.
  • Excellent references from previous vessel management/skipper roles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or Google apps.
  • Availability for seasonal assignments and vessel travel.
  • Professional, personable, and reliable with strong communication skills.

Offer
  • Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 per annum (commensurate with experience and qualifications).
