About the role
As the Data Solutions Architect, you will spearhead the development, growth, and strategic direction of the data engineering practice within our consultancy. Your role will focus on leading a team of data professionals, managing client engagements, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, data-driven solutions that address client challenges. You will work closely with both internal teams and clients to help organizations leverage data for better decision-making, innovation, and growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Practice Leadership & Development:
- Define the strategic roadmap for the data engineering practice, aligning it with overall company goals.
- Identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities to continuously evolve the practice.
- Lead and orchestrate innovation initiatives aiming to mature the organisation's data capabilities and solutions.
- Develop service offerings that meet client needs, including data strategy, BI, Artificial Intelligence, advanced analytics, and data governance.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team.
Client Engagement & Solution Delivery:
- Lead high-impact client engagements, guiding teams in the delivery of end-to-end data analytics solutions.
- Provide expertise in the areas of data strategy, business intelligence, predictive analytics, and data management.
- Collaborate with clients to understand business objectives and design tailored data-driven solutions.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key clients to ensure repeat business.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and mentor a team of data engineers and analysts, promoting collaboration and career growth.
- Recruit, retain, and develop talent within the data engineering team.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to enhance team capabilities.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and best practices.
Business Development & Sales Support:
- Support business development efforts by working closely with the sales team to identify and pursue new opportunities.
- Lead and contribute to proposal writing, client presentations, and pre-sales activities.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) during client discussions, showcasing the value of data solutions in tackling business problems.
- Identify potential partnerships and collaborations that can enhance the practice's offerings.
Thought Leadership:
- Serve as the face of the data engineering practice in industry forums, conferences, and events.
- Publish white papers, blogs, and case studies to showcase the consultancy's capabilities and success stories.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging tools, and methodologies, sharing insights with clients and internal teams.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree or MBA preferred.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or related data domains.
- 5+ years of experience in a consulting or professional services environment.
- Proven experience in leading data engineering teams and delivering client-focused solutions.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in data analytics tools and platforms (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Apache Spark, Tableau, Power BI).
- Expertise in Azure services and analytics platforms such as Databricks, Synapse and MS Fabric.
- Knowledge of other cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus.
- Familiar with DMBOK and/or TOGAF frameworks.
- Expertise with data lake modelling such as Kimball (Star Schema) and Data Vault modelling.
- Strong understanding of machine learning, predictive analytics, and data visualization techniques.
Soft Skills:
- Strong clients focus and ensure effective relationships are in place with key client stakeholders to deliver that service.
- Excellent client relationship management skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills interfacing with diverse stakeholders. i.e., General Manager, Head of Architecture, Solution Architecture.
- Solid experience in relationship management, conflict resolution, influencing and negotiation.
- Must be able to work independently but also lead Consulting engagements in a highly matrixed environment (especially for short-term engagements).
- A team player who can liaise effectively with a diverse group of delivery teams to ensure a positive experience for the customer.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Consulting experience in various industries (e.g., finance, healthcare, manufacturing).
- Azure and Databricks certifications are a plus.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
