MUST BE ENROLLED IN A PHD OR MPHIL DEGREE IN THE SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY

The School of Chemistry is inviting applications from Honours graduates across all areas of Chemistry for a part-time (0.2 FTE) role at the Postgraduate Teaching Fellowship level.

To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in a PhD (preferred) or MPhil program within the School and anticipate continuing their studies for up to two years. This position offers a salary in addition to any existing scholarship funding.

This Fellowship provides exceptional postgraduate students with hands-on experience and training in tertiary education, helping to shape the next generation of university academics.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• conduct and prepare for first-year tutorials during both semesters in all areas of first-year chemistry

• conduct examination marking

• respond to student enquiries

• undertake administrative functions

• participate in University events and outreach activities, such as Open Days

• prepare online and/or in-person training modules or contributing to tutorial rewrites/updates.

Training will be provided by the School of Chemistry staff, including recipients of local and national teaching awards. Further support will be provided throughout the year by academic staff involved in the teaching program. Additionally, you will attend training modules run by the Education Innovation group in the University (topics include team teaching, creating positive environments, and peer-peer learning).

About you

• an Honours degree in Chemistry (or equivalent)

• enrolled in a PhD or MPhil degree in the School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney

• outstanding oral and written communication skills are required.
