About the Opportunity

The Senior Policy Officer provides high level support to the Local and State First Nations Voices, including providing timely and strategic advice relating to bills, legislation and complex policy matters. The role is responsible for coordinating the work of the State Voice, its interactions and functions with the Parliament and South Australian Government, and related projects.

The role requires the incumbent to operate with significant levels of autonomy, utilising comprehensive knowledge of matters relating to South Australian Aboriginal communities, a high level of cultural competency and a track record of building strong relationships with stakeholders to achieve results. Strong governance, intergovernmental relations and communication skills are required for success. All members of the Secretariat undertake a broad range of duties and work collaboratively to ensure the effective functioning of the office, and Local and State Voices. A willingness to travel and undertake out of hours work in support of Voice commitments is essential.

About the Business

The First Nations Voice Secretariat (the Secretariat) works closely with the members of the First Nations Voice to Parliament to provide quality policy, administrative and operational support in the performance of their functions under the First Nations Voice Act 2023. While its functions are to support the Members of the South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament, the Secretariat consists of government employees and sits administratively within the Attorney-General's Department.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested.
