The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Intelligence Analyst to provide a critical role at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

About the Business Unit

The Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group, comprising Corrections Victoria, Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.

Corrections Victoria is responsible for the implementation of policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Corrections Victoria also sets strategy, policy and standards for the management of the state's system of correctional facilities whilst also developing programs for the management and rehabilitation of prisoners and the community-based supervision of offenders.

As part of the CJS group, the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC) is a 694 bed maximum-security facility for female offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice.

Corrections Victoria Intelligence Service (CVIS) is the overarching intelligence service for Corrections Victoria and its stakeholders. Presently the CVIS comprises the primary intelligence unit known as the Corrections Victoria Intelligence Unit (CVIU) and intelligence officers located at the twelve public and two private prison facilities in Victoria.

About the Role

The position of Corrections Intelligence Analyst, Dame Phyllis Frost Centre (DPFC), will be responsible for gathering, recording, analysing and disseminating information, to identify potential prisoner incidents/unrest, prevent prisoner escapes, and prevent the introduction and usage of contraband within the prison.

This position reports to the Supervisor, Prison Intelligence Unit, DPFC, and will contribute to both tactical and strategic intelligence functions, and analyse and present intelligence information to management and authorised persons/external agencies as required.

The position will support prison management in maintaining the security, good order and management of prison facility.

This position does not involve any shift work. Successful applicant will work Monday to Friday, 38 hours/week.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Lead the collation, analysis, and controlled dissemination and reporting of intelligence information to authorised parties, in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present intelligence briefings, and make high quality recommendations, in respect of the analysis of intelligence data, including the identification and evaluation of emerging threats, opportunities, patterns and trends relating to the activities within DPFC which affect the security and good order of the prison.
  • Support prison management, staff and external agencies in the development and planning of intelligence-led prison operations.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary principles and practises that apply to intelligence functions within the criminal justice system and across intelligence agencies.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or thematic knowledge of analytically Intelligence.
  • Possession of, or progression towards, an accredited Intelligence Analyst qualification.
