This technical role involves evaluating and interpreting subsurface geological data to guide investment decisions for Tri-Star. The responsibilities include planning and executing geological activities on various Tri-Star projects. A key requirement for this position is experience across multiple types of geological formations and commodities, encompassing both conventional and unconventional oil and gas plays.
Experience Required
- Experience working with conventional and/or unconventional petroleum reservoirs, including Coal Seam Gas.
- Working knowledge of geological software (Petrel or equivalent) and data analysis tools and subsurface workflows.
- Familiar with the geology of the Australia's east coast with knowledge of Bowen-Surat Basins and the Cooper Basin.
- Knowledge of prospect volumetrics and risking in conventional and unconventional reservoirs.
- Ability to work autonomously but not fear asking for help as required.
- Be curious, organised and have excellent communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to alternate technology, points of view and challenges.
Role and Responsibilities
Subsurface Evaluation
- Geoscience Data Discovery – Use government databases, open file reports to locate data (well logs, core analysis, seismic, well completion reports) that are relevant to Tri-Star's areas of interest.
- Load, quality control and maintain data in Tri-Star's databases.
- Keep abreast of new developments, technologies, methods or best practices and incorporate into Tri-Stars workflows and operations where appropriate
Geoscience Data Interpretation - Integrate and interpret a variety of geological data to generate maps, sections and geological models at regional to prospect scale. This could include:
Well log interpretation and petrophysics.
- Well correlations
- Core analysis
Seismic interpretation
Develop technical proposals for exploration activities and work programs.
- Manage contractors and consultants as required for studies, data processing etc.
- Articulate geological hazards and uncertainties associated with work programs.
- Regulatory reporting post activity and as required by legislation.
Project Execution
- Work closely with the Engineering Team and other professionals to develop drilling plans and evaluation strategies to mitigate risks to ensure the success of exploration efforts.
- Work with the Engineering and Subsurface Teams to develop operational decision trees.
- Provide support to the Engineering Team during the execution of field activities
- Monitor drilling operations maintaining proper communication with the engineering team and well site geologist
- Use drilling data and well correlations to identify coring points and zones for testing.
- Provide geological input on target selection, wellbore trajectory and geosteering operations where appropriate
- Document operations in written reports and illustrate with cross sections, maps etc.
- Evaluate current practices to identify improvement opportunities Company wide.
- Support engineering team in authoring Well Completion Reports.
- Ensure all newly acquired data is filed appropriately for new well, studies, seismic etc.
Business Development
- Provide technical input into Tri-Star's business cases in line with Tri-Star's gated process.
- Provide subsurface evaluations of potential acquisitions and farm-in opportunities
- Ensure that the risk associated with each activity is well articulated in accordance with established methodologies.
