Introduction
Are you someone who thrives on connecting with people, sparking collaboration, and opening new doors? Do you have the drive to lead a ministry through change and the hands-on ability to help shape its systems and culture for growth? At Crossroads, we are seeking a leader who can inspire churches and volunteers to join us as we work to double our mentor numbers—so that every prisoner who reaches out for a Bible study can be discipled.
You will lead a small, committed team through an exciting season of transformation. As more and more inmates request to begin Bible studies, we need a leader who can not only strengthen our operations but also help us attract hundreds of new mentors and skilled volunteers. This is your opportunity to help Crossroads grow in both capacity and impact.
About Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia
Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia exists to share the life-changing hope of Jesus with men and women in prison. Through our Bible study correspondence program, we walk alongside those who are reaching out to Jesus, offering them hope, encouragement, and spiritual growth.
What sets Crossroads apart is the personal, handwritten letter of encouragement that our mentors include with every lesson they mark. For our students, these letters are a source of great joy—reminders that someone cares enough to walk with them on their faith journey. For our mentors, the opportunity to have meaningful faith conversations with those seeking Jesus is deeply rewarding.
We are interdenominational and Bible based, and together with our mentors, churches, and volunteers, we serve incarcerated individuals across Australia and the Pacific Islands, helping them experience the life-transforming power of God's Word.
About the Role
This is an exciting, newly created role at a time of growth and opportunity for Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia. For many years, the ministry has been faithfully led on the ground by our beloved Office Manager, who has poured his heart into the work and is deeply appreciated.
After years of faithful service, he has expressed a desire to step down and open the door for the next season of leadership. He remains passionate about the ministry and is generously offering to stay on during the recruitment period to ensure a smooth and well-supported handover.
As we look to the future, it's clear that God is growing the ministry — both in reach and impact. To steward this growth and respond to the many opportunities ahead, we have made the decision to appoint a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This is a rare opportunity to build on a strong foundation and help lead a Christ- centred ministry into its next chapter.
Key Responsibilities
The CEO will be entrusted with leading the people and operations of Crossroads Prison Ministries Australia, while working alongside the Committee of Management in shaping and pursuing the vision.
Reporting to the Committee, the CEO's role is to help the ministry grow in health, reach, and impact. Key responsibilities will include:
- Mentor Growth and Support: Lead and implement the strategy to grow our mentor base from 350 to 1,000 in the coming years — starting with the urgent need for 500 — by partnering with churches, working alongside our promotions coordinator to enhance communications, and inspiring new volunteers to join us and support them in various roles.
- Operational Oversight: Strengthen and refine existing systems and processes to support sustainable growth, ensuring high-quality mentoring remains central to everything we do.
- Pacific Islands Ministry: In conjunction with our Manager PNG Operations, support and equip our partners across the Pacific Islands, setting appropriate expectations for timely lesson completion and submission in culturally sensitive ways. Oversee the rollout of our new lesson-scanning and electronic distribution system.
- Team and People Management: Lead, support and develop staff and volunteers to thrive in their roles, with clarity around responsibilities, expectations, and alignment with the mission.
- Partnership Development: Represent Crossroads to churches, donors, ministry partners and the wider community. Inspire individuals and church communities to engage with and support the ministry through prayer, finances, mentoring, and volunteering.
- This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves Jesus, values people, and thrives on seeing faithful ministry grow and flourish.
Who We're Looking For
First and foremost, we're looking for someone whose heart beats for the good news of Jesus and the transformation He brings. This role will suit a mature, committed Christian who is actively involved in a local church and passionate about sharing the hope of the gospel — especially with those who are often overlooked, such as prisoners and the broken.
This is not just a leadership role — it's a calling. The right person will feel a deep sense of purpose in leading a ministry like Crossroads and will be driven by a desire to make Jesus known to men and women behind bars.
We're seeking someone who thrives in the details — not just dreaming about the future but rolling up their sleeves to implement it. While the Committee of Management brings a strong sense of vision and direction, we're looking for someone who can both contribute to that vision and help bring it to life. That means strengthening and refining our existing processes to support growth, helping people serve in the roles where they thrive, sourcing and integrating new volunteers, and building the structures needed to sustain the ministry into the future.
Crossroads is powered by volunteers, so we're looking for a pastoral leader who knows how to create a healthy, encouraging environment where volunteers feel supported, valued, and inspired to contribute. We have a wonderfully healthy and supportive culture, and we're looking for someone who can continue to foster an environment where both our volunteers and the ministry can flourish. That means setting a positive tone, upholding clear standards, and helping people serve in roles that align with their strengths and passion.
You'll also need to be a strong communicator — someone who can speak with warmth and clarity, whether sharing the vision with churches, inviting people to become mentors, or building support from donors and partners.
This is a season of significant growth. We expect lesson numbers to continue growing and we need to find and train the hundreds of mentors needed for the growing numbers of lessons. This growth brings incredible opportunities — but also challenges. We need someone who can lead us through this change with wisdom, grace, and persistence.
You'll need to bring together many moving parts — from mentor recruitment and training, to marketing, internal systems, and quality control — so we can grow in both size and depth. Because at the heart of our ministry is one-to-one, gospel-centred mentoring, and we're committed to doing it well, even if that means growing more slowly.
If you're an implementer, a pastorally-minded leader, a capable organiser, and someone who lives to see lives transformed by Christ — we'd love to hear from you
