The Opportunity

The Investment Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of investment processes, bridging the gap between front office investment teams and back office operations. This role is responsible for overseeing trade support, portfolio data integrity, performance analytics, and investment risk monitoring functions. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of financial instruments, operational workflows, and regulatory requirements within asset management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee trade capture, confirmation, and settlement processes across asset classes.
  • Liaise with custodians, brokers, and counter parties to resolve trade discrepancies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate trade booking and reconciliation.

  • Maintain accurate position and transaction data across internal systems.

  • Monitor corporate actions, pricing feeds, and benchmark data.
  • Coordinate with IT and data vendors to resolve data quality issues.

  • Collaborate with performance teams to validate portfolio returns and attribution.

  • Support investment teams with customised reporting and analytics.

  • Monitor investment guideline breaches and escalate as necessary.

  • Assist in the implementation of investment risk controls and compliance checks.
  • Support regulatory reporting and audit processes.

  • Identify and implement process enhancements to improve operational efficiency.

  • Lead or contribute to system upgrades, automation initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
  • Motivate, coach and mentor members of the investment team.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in middle office or investment operations within asset management.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments (equities – domestic and global, fixed income, derivatives).
  • Experience with portfolio management systems (e.g. IRESS, Bloomberg AIM, Charles River, Aladdin).
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to problem-solve with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
