About the Position

Are you ready to make a difference in your community while working outdoors and operating a variety of machinery? The Shire of Ashburton is seeking a motivated, reliable and versatile Waste General Hand to support waste operations across our facilities.

About the Role

As a Waste General Hand, you'll play a key role in maintaining the Shire's waste facilities and services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating waste collection vehicles and machinery (eg side/rear loaders, compactors, wheel loaders).

  • Providing excellent customer service at weighbridge/gatehouse facilities.

  • Supporting kerbside waste collection and litter control.

  • Must be prepared to offer support across all the waste sites.

  • Assisting with bin repairs and general site tidiness.

  • Ensuring safety for road users, staff, and contractors.

What We're Looking for

  • Able to work effectively in hot outdoor environments or indoors as required.

  • Has experience operating trucks and heavy plant (desirable).

  • Is confident using Microsoft Office and weighbridge/POS systems.

  • HR license (or ability and commitment to obtain) plus a white card.

  • Demonstrates strong teamwork, communications and customer service skills.

  • Would suit a local community member as Shire provided housing is not available with this role.
