About the opportunity
As Senior Tax Manager - Indirect Taxes, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert tax advisory and risk management across Charter Hall's diverse property portfolio.
You'll partner with stakeholders to deliver technical support and genuine insight on operational and strategic tax issues, ensuring compliance and sustainable outcomes. Your work will directly influence the execution of complex transactions and the ongoing success of the business.
What you'll be doing
- Deliver Expert Tax Advice:
Provide technical support and genuine insight on operational and strategic tax issues, ensuring compliance and sustainable outcomes. - Structure Complex Transactions:
Design and implement effective tax structures for complex property transactions, focusing on duty, land tax, and GST. - Risk Management & Communication: C
learly articulate tax risks to stakeholders and maintain open, accurate communication across the business. - Audit & Investigation Support:
Assist the Head of Tax in managing audits and investigations, ensuring thorough oversight and resolution. - Stakeholder Education:
Ensure senior management and Fund Managers understand their tax obligations and responsibilities. - Training & Advocacy:
Conduct tax training for finance staff and other business units, and engage in industry advocacy to address relevant tax issues. - Profile Raising:
Elevate the visibility and reputation of the tax function within Charter Hall, positioning it as a strategic business partner. - Multi-Project Management:
Manage multiple simultaneous transactions and competing priorities, especially within complex fund structures involving many stakeholders.
Your point of difference - what you'll bring to the team:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Taxation, Law, or Commerce.
- Extensive experience (ideally 8+ years) in tax management, preferably within property, real estate, or investment sectors.
- Strong technical expertise in indirect taxes (GST, land tax, stamp duty) and property-related tax issues.
- Proven ability to provide strategic tax advice and develop tax-efficient structures for complex transactions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-specialists.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
- High level of commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong future-focused leader, with demonstrated capabilities, including self-awareness, resilience, agility and generosity.
