About The Team
Our national Workplace Relations & Safety team is widely recognised as a market leading practice in the areas of employment, workplace and industrial relations, and safety law.
The Sydney Workplace Relations & Safety team is led by pre-eminent partners, Stephen Trew, Michael Selinger and Megan Cant.
Our team has significant experience in all aspects of workplace relations and safety and acts for some of Australia's largest and most prominent employers across a wide range of industries, including Scentre Group (Westfield), SBS, the Bulldogs Football Club, a 'Big 4' accounting firm, Federal and State Government, Essential Energy, Ferrari Australasia, and many others. We also work with internationally based firms to represent multi-national employers.
The team has a supportive culture with a flat structure and open door policy, and they encourage their lawyers to deal directly with clients and participate in business development to build and develop their own personal brand.
About The Role
We are looking for an experienced lawyer to join the team to manage work across the breadth of the practice. The role will form part of a strong team who run our successful and growing practice.
Given the level of experience we are seeking, the successful candidate will have responsibility across the full gamut of workplace relations matters including both advice and disputes and will have managed files from instruction through to settlement. More specifically you will have experience in the following:
- Fair Work Act compliance and workplace advice
- employment contracts and disputes
- ill and injured workers
- restraint of trade advice and disputes
- managing termination and redundancy processes and issues
- discrimination, sexual harassment and bulling complaints and claims
- investigations
- transfer of business
- industrial relations and enterprise bargaining
- Health & Safety investigations and prosecutions
About you
The ideal candidate will possess at least 5 years of post-admission experience gained in a broad workplace relations and safety practice. You will be a good supervisor and have a demonstrated track record of working with more junior lawyers to mentor and delegate work to as necessary.
You must also:
- have a passion for this area of the law;
- be able to demonstrate significant experience in both advisory and litigious matters, including in Courts and Tribunals; and
- relish the opportunity to work directly with clients, and build and maintain strong relationships, while continuously striving to better understand our clients' business needs and workplace requirements.
This is a rare opportunity to join a firm and team that offers great work and great clients, in a genuinely supportive environment.
