Greater Sydney Area, Australia Skip Foundation Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

OVERVIEW OF ORGANISATION

Skip Foundation works in partnership with social entrepreneurs, field builders and government, inspiring others to give and bring about systemic change in Australia and abroad.

With a history of innovation, generosity and systems change, Skip Foundation Co-founders Scott Farquhar and Kim Jackson have helped transform the Australian tech ecosystem to what it is today.

Skip Foundation is embarking on a strategy of audacious and thoughtful philanthropy. Core to this is making "Big Bets": individual grants of $10 million or more. Skip Foundation has identified four areas where its approach can have the greatest impact: Equality of Opportunity; Health; Environment; and Catalysing Philanthropy.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Help to shape our organisation by working with the CEO in this unique role to support Skip Foundation's big bet grant-making in our key issue areas (health, equity, environment and catalytic philanthropy). Manage Skip Foundation's pre-existing partnerships, help identify success metrics for grant renewals, assist the CEO/Founders with potential initiatives identified, prepare board briefings and manage relationships with grantees, field builders and grant-making collaborators (organisations who manage grant-making on our behalf). This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the right skills and passion to join our small, dynamic team.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Management:

  • Support the CEO to maintain senior stakeholder relationships, including with social entrepreneurs, non profits and government representatives.
  • Manage day-to-day communication with key contact points with existing and future grantees/field-builders and grant-making collaborators.
  • Roll up your sleeves and assist the CEO with any event-management or other tasks relevant to progressing Skip Foundation's goals.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with subject matter experts in key issue areas to help build the Foundation's knowledge to inform our decision-making.
  • Manage sign-off of reporting from grant recipients.

External Communications:

  • In collaboration with Akin (Public Relations Agency) celebrate the success of Skip Foundation's grantee partners and Skip Foundation's activities, through social media channels.

Grant Management:

  • Support the CEO to build the funding pipeline through research into emerging trends, monitoring the funding landscape and undertaking due diligence into potential partners.
  • Working closely with the Governance & Operations Manager, maintain efficient and effective end-to-end grant administration for our big bet partnerships, as well as any smaller grant administration as it arises.

Impact Measurement:

  • Work with the Impact consultant and CEO to help evolve the Foundation's approach to measurement and evaluation and ensure this feeds into ongoing improvements in our grant-making

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Contribute to ensuring ethical grant-making standards and compliance are upheld and help to identify and mitigate/manage risks.

Technology and other support:

  • Input into the design and ongoing improvements of technology to support grant-making.

EXPERIENCE

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • Strong demonstrated experience in grant-making (or equivalent) and managing partnership relationships, preferably within an entrepreneurial, impact-focussed organisation.
  • An understanding of ground-breaking, big bet approaches to venture philanthropy and contemporary grant-making strategies.
  • Insight into how government, philanthropy and not for profits operate and interact with each other effectively. Appreciation of the challenges facing the organisations and communities we serve.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information internally and externally.

Collaboration:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with the leadership team, board members, and external partners/providers.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Adaptability to change and flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A 'can do' attitude, ready to roll up your sleeves.
  • Ability to think autonomously and proactive in your approach.
  • Discretion and privacy in everything you do.
  • Self-awareness, with the capacity to relate to a diverse range of people.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to work together with others.
  • Passionate about making a difference.

Join the team at Skip Foundation on our mission to help solve some of the world's most pressing problems.
