Primary objective

Responsible for the delivery of a high-quality mental health service to children and young people with serious emotional and

behavioural difficulties, including mental health assessment and evidence-based interventions within a remote context.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. An experienced mental health clinician competent in delivering services within a Child and Youth Mental Health Team (CYMHT)

and in the context of a remote mental health service and a multi-disciplinary team.

2. Manage a complex and diverse case load of children and young people with moderate-severe mental health difficulties and

complete comprehensive mental health assessment, case management and therapeutic interventions with clients and their

family.

  1. Support improvements in the community needs-driven distribution of services, including the development of new service

models in response to NT Health and National mental health reform directions.

  1. Responsible for the implementation of clinical guidelines and standards related to their professional services within the area of

child and youth mental health.

  1. A proven ability to work with children, youth and families from a trauma-informed perspective.
  2. Contribute to the development of contemporary models of care within Mental Health Central Australia and Barkly Regions.
  3. Contributes to research and undertake quality evaluation at program or professional network level.
  4. Maintain high standards in report writing, electronic record keeping, and file maintenance and quality assurance in service

delivery.

9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Meet the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requirements to practice as a Social Worker, Psychologist,

Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist and possess a recognised mental health qualification.

2. Demonstrated, recent clinical experience in mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods that are

appropriate to children and adolescents and their families/carers.

3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

4. Demonstrated ability to prepare written reports to a high standard and complete extensive clinical documentation in a timely

manner.

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health services to the target

population.

6. Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

7. Proven ability to work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their families.

8. Hold a current Northern Territory driver's licence or ability to obtain, and willingness and ability to travel to remote

communities.

Desirable

1. Postgraduate mental health qualifications, with a preference for those with child and adolescent mental health training

2. Previous experience working within a child and adolescent mental health service.
