Primary objective

Applies advanced nursing/midwifery knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a specified area of clinical practice in therapeutic and

professional relationships with individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities.

Context statement

Working in a small inpatient Ward to provide direct patient care, hands-on clinical leadership, and supporting the Nurse Management

Specialist in the day-to-day operation of the unit. The Ward has 20 beds made up of 14 adult and 6 paediatric beds. Effective

communication skills and a demonstrated ability to act as a clinical resource for junior staff are crucial requirements of the position

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing/midwifery care to achieve identified individual/group health

outcomes.

2. Provide leadership and care coordination across a shift and act as a resource to other members of staff within a designated portfolio

e.g. education, NSQHS Standard.

3. Accountable for the planning, provision, and communication of nursing/midwifery care, including the evaluation and required revision

of practice.

4. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.

5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.

2. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge, skills and experience in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy with

depth in some areas and a broad range of skills.

3. Demonstrated ability to act as a clinical resource person and role model, including mentoring and preceptoring less experienced staff

and students.

4. Demonstrated contribution to the development and implementation of local activities beyond direct client care e.g. clinical education,

assist in management, research/quality assurance activities.

5. Demonstrated effective communication skills to achieve positive outcomes, including maintaining productive multi-disciplinary working

relationships, effectively dealing with challenging behaviours, and resolving conflicts.

6. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that influence

health care provision for clients and families.

1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in relevant specialty area.
