We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 2 to join our Missile Products team in Plymouth, MN. This position reports to the Design Engineering Manager 3 for the Missile Products, Fuze and Warheads business area.
Job Summary:
As an Engineering Manager in the Fuze & Warheads Development Group, you will be responsible for the mechanical design function and may also function as a technical lead, technical contributor, or technical consultant on various projects. You will be responsible for growing and managing a design team, processes, and tools as well as directing and/or working with other engineers, technicians, functional managers, program managers and administrative personnel to accomplish your objectives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead a team that performs technical planning, system integration, and design in addition to failure analysis, build, test, and production sustainment support of components and assemblies of defense-related products.
- Ensure the right people, processes, and tools are in place to meet the business needs
- Oversee the supervision of day-to-day engineering activity and work products, expense management, workload management, and performance management process.
- Identify, manage and grow the critical skills development process for the design team.
- Identify and/or lead continuous improvement activities within the department.
- Function as a key contributor on DoD development programs, managing assigned responsibilities and directing the work of other supervisors, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel to accomplish program goals.
- Manage cost and schedule for assigned projects.
- Prepare, review, and approve cost estimates and written or oral technical proposals.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in Engineering is required, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace.
- Minimum of 8 years of directly related design experience.
- 2+ years of project, program, or people leadership experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical engineering skills and exposure to a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software, preferably CREO.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
- Familiar with Root Cause Analysis, Fault Trees and Design of Experiments.
- Possess an understanding of finite element analysis codes for structural analysis of designs.
- Strong leadership, influence, and project management skills.
- Ability to network and negotiate at all levels within an organization to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
