Trades Assistant – Underground Equipment Maintenance

Location: Tomingley Gold Mine

Tomingley Gold Mine is seeking an organised, proactive, and reliable self-starter to work as a Trades Assistant, supporting our mobile maintenance team with day-to-day tasks. This role is ideal for someone who can plan ahead, stay organised, and ensure everything runs smoothly for the tradespeople—so they can focus on the technical work.

You will assist the trades team with supply of parts for planned maintenance tasks, preparation of work areas, and completion of housekeeping and environmental compliance activities. This is not a role for simply "cleaning up"; it's about being the person who keeps everything in order and ready for action.

A general interest in mechanical equipment and parts is desirable but not essential – these skills can be learnt with the right attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

• Transport tools, equipment, and parts within the workshop and stores yards to/from work areas when required.
• Operate basic tools and machinery (e.g., pressure washers, forklifts, overhead cranes, light vehicle) safely and competently.
• Ensure work areas are prepared ahead of time and stocked with the required parts and tools.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workshop areas, including tool storage and parts inventory.
• Assist with stock control, unloading deliveries, and allocation of parts.
• Under the guidance of tradespeople, assist with servicing, maintenance, and repairs of underground mining equipment.
• Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision, such as machine servicing, removing components, cleaning parts, and refitting assemblies.
• Adhere to all site and statutory safety requirements, including PPE, hazard reporting, and isolation procedures.

A functional/medical assessment and a national criminal history check will form part of the recruitment process.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Manual driver's licence (HR preferred).
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in trade development.
• Strong commitment to safety and a proactive attitude.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screen.
• A positive, can-do attitude with a strong work ethic.
• Forward-thinking mindset and willingness to anticipate needs.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

About Us

Tomingley Gold Mine, owned and operated by West Australian based Alkane Resources Ltd, is situated near the village of Tomingley, 50 km south of Dubbo in Central New South Wales. Our mining operation includes both underground and open-cut mines, as well as a processing plant on-site that is responsible for producing gold bullion. The mine's workforce consists of approximately 250 permanent employees who hold various roles in professional, technical, mining, processing, and trades.

One significant development for the Tomingley Gold Mine is the approval of both an extension to our underground mine and a new open-cut mine located 3 km to the south of the existing Tomingley deposits. This development approval and expansion will see a mine life beyond 2032.
