Helensvale, Queensland, Australia Yalari Limited Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

Summary:

We are seeking a skilled support manager and relationship builder to join us as a Student Support Manager.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of Student Support Officers across eight partners schools in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

You will support the Student Support Officers as they build a strong working relationship with students, parents or caregivers, as well as the partner schools our students attend. This role requires an ability to build trusting relationships, possess exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work independently for the best outcomes for all parties.

A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures will assist you in all aspects of your work.

About Us:

For almost 20 years, Yalari has been changing the lives of Indigenous children from remote and regional communities, by providing scholarships to Australia's leading boarding schools.

Over that time, we have developed and refined the support programs that help our students achieve academically, keep them motivated to succeed, connect them with their culture and each other and, most importantly, inspire them to 'pay it forward' by helping others to follow in their footsteps.

After graduation, our alumni continue to be powerfully connected to each other and the Yalari community. With access to programs to support leadership, professional and personal growth, our alumni are empowered to grow and develop as both leaders and professionals in community, business and Australia.

Yalari is built on partnerships: partnerships with our students, their families and communities; partnerships with our schools; and, alongside everything we do, partnerships with our sponsors and supporters.

Our core values of compassion, openness, respect, resilience, inclusiveness and excellence are at the heart of everything we do.

Responsibilities:

The Student Support Manager will be responsible for:

  • Actively role-modelling, contributing and participating in the development and management of the Yalari working culture which is strongly founded in our CORRIE Values.
  • Supporting the Student Support Officers and their allocation of students across the eight schools ensuring the highest level of care and support is provided to the Yalari scholars.
  • Working closely with the Head of Student Support to manage the performance of the Student Support Officers and support their professional development.
  • Ensuring that the Student Support Officers under their purview are completing case notes from all interactions with the Yalari students.
  • Developing a strategic relationship with each of the partner schools with which your allocation of Student Support Officers are aligned. This includes working with key boarding, pastoral and leadership staff in partner schools on a day-to-day basis to ensure the Yalari students are well supported. This may include their cultural connection, wellbeing, academic performance, and physical safety.
  • Working with the parents/carers, family and community of children tied to the allocation of Student Support Officers. This may include attending parent-school meetings, parent-child meetings or gatherings with the Student Support Officer and their students.
  • Working collectively with the Wellbeing and Academic Program Leads in the Student Support team to implement the Thrive and Aspire programs respectively ensuring their best chance of achieving successful outcomes for Yalari students.
  • Supporting the Philanthropy team to prepare quarterly student updates by coordinating Student Support Officers to prioritise the information required from the students.
  • Supporting Yalari during major events by coordinating Student Support Officers and Yalari students to attend events as ambassadors of our program.
  • Actively using the CRM and maintain quality data entry to enable data-driven insights to inform work.
  • Actively contributing and participating in regular team meetings and committing to open and transparent communications with your manager, peers and stakeholders.
  • Note: You will support officers located at Somerville House, St Margaret's, Churchie, Clayfield College, John Paul College, Scots PGC (Warwick), Toowoomba Grammar School and The Glennie (both Toowoomba).

A Note on Travel

As this role supports students at schools in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, localised travel is required. The role will be based at Helensvale. Travel further afield is less likely but occasionally required.

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications in social work, community development, education or youth services desirable but not essential.
  • Exceptional ability to build relationships with both the Yalari scholars, their families and the school.
  • Experience working in an integrated support and care team for key individuals.
  • Experience working with youths aged 12-17 years in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Aptitude for using technology-based case management systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Please submit your resume and a one-page cover letter telling us a little about yourself and why you are interested in this position.
