Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW) represents NSW Catholic schools and their owners to the media, government and other education sector stakeholders. Catholic Schools in NSW educate approximately one in five NSW students.
CSNSW acts as the overarching entity for the purposes of advancing education and religion in Catholic schools in NSW and ensures that Catholic schools meet their compliance requirements and can measure their activities in such a way as to maximize the education and faith outcomes of students.
Employees of CSNSW provide advice to Government, Catholic School Agencies and Schools on the full range of educational policy and compliance drivers impacting contemporary NSW schooling.
Primary Purpose of the roleThis newly created position is part of a small, professional team, Analytics Central, a specialist unit acting as an enterprise-wide resource researching, identifying and reporting on key insights and trends impacting upon school education in Australia. CSNSW has a range of sequenced functions relating to its information and data work programs, these broadly track three journeys:

Analytics Central's value-add is focused on 2) and 3); it drives insights through qualitative and quantitative work and supports a prioritised and sequenced pipeline of projects, reports and other identified assignments.
The role undertakes in-depth analysis and provision of accurate and timely statistical information that supports senior management of CSNSW and school and diocesan system leaders in their reporting, policy development and decision making processes concerning the educational delivery in NSW Catholic schools with a view to improving education outcomes.
This is a full time, 2 year fixed term position with a requirement to work in our Sydney, CBD office. Salary packing benefits available and access to flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities- Perform high level research, statistical analysis and review of complex educational issues, and produce briefings, publish technical reports and develop advice for senior management.
- Undertake advanced statistical analysis and modelling of large and complex data sets using specialised computer software.
- Manage statistical projects, including creating statistical and research plans, reviewing results for reasonableness and accuracy and preparing technical reports.
- Develop and/ or contribute to the development of reports, analyses, briefings, correspondence, speeches and other written material in a final high quality manner.
- Prepare and give presentations to stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with other analysts in the team to ensure appropriate statistical techniques are applied to education data to generate new knowledge and a rigorous evidence base for policy development and system and classroom interventions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships to foster collaboration, consultation and engagement on statistical data analysis and other initiatives.
- Support CSNSW's representation on state and national statistical/educational measurement forums. Promote and support the development and use of best-practice statistical techniques within the Catholic sector that are valuable in the analysis of education data.
- Participate in the facilitation and exchange of ideas and analysis techniques across the sector.
The role will also be required to:
- Provide high quality statistical advice and analysis in a responsive and timely manner that meets the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Translate complex and sophisticated analysis into plain English for broad audiences.
- Identify opportunities for improving the management and analysis of data to address challenging statistical research questions.
- Consult closely and proactively with the Head Analytics Central and Senior Management.
- Empathy with and support for the mission, ethos and beliefs of Catholic schools and the communities they serve.
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
- Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
- At least 3-5 years in a similar role, preferably within an education-related environment.
- Postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline, such as statistics, economics or psychology.
- Experience using statistical applications, such as R, SAS, SPSS, MLwiN, Stata or Matlab, or psychometric applications, such as RUMM2030, ConQuest, WinSTEPS.
- Experience with multi-level modelling.
- Experience in educational measurement is preferred.
- Experience with Tableau or Power BI is preferred.
- Commitment to maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dealing respectfully with sensitive information.
- Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting timeframes.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
