APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal to manage operations at the Port of Abbot Point—Australia's northernmost coal port—located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.

Abbot Point Operations has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Reliability Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Engineering and Planning Team, you will be responsible for providing Reliability Engineering technical services and support to the Terminal and ensure the reliability of the fixed plant assets is maintained to meet operational requirements at the Abbot Point terminal.

As the Maintenance Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of non-structural assets monitoring and analysing asset performance and providing critical insights into improving reliability to align with business goals and operational needs. You will also support the Planning & Engineering Superintendent in managing APO's relationships with key stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain and monitor the execution of maintenance reliability strategies for non-structural assets in line with the asset management strategy and recommend improvements.
  • Collect and analyse asset performance data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Lead assigned root cause analysis for non-structural failures, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead reviews for all maintenance delays greater than 120 minutes and recommend actions.
  • Establish and maintain guidelines & triggers for condition monitoring, including the investigation of new technology and up to date methodologies.
  • Provide expert technical advice on reliability engineering principles and practices to operations, maintenance, and project teams.
  • Review Condition Monitoring and Conveyor Belt Inspections, recommend action plan and monitor completion of approved actions.
  • Document and share learnings from failure investigations to improve organisational knowledge.
  • Integrate both traditional and innovative, structured reliability techniques, systems and process modelling to achieve higher reliability and optimise total asset costs.
  • Lead the implementation of maintenance KPIs for the business, monitor and report on performance in conjunction with key stakeholders.

What We're Looking For:

  • Tertiary degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated reliability or mechanical/electrical engineering experience and knowledge of Asset Management Systems including ISO55001
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in reliability (preferred)
  • Experience in reliability maintenance programs will be beneficial
  • Proficiency in SAP maintenance components preferable
  • In depth knowledge and experience working within a fixed plant environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in using reliability analytic tools such as RCA, RCM, FMECA, RBD, Weibull
