Heavy Vehicle Mechanic – Workshop Lead Hand

The Client

Our client specializes in major mechanical, fabrication, overhauls, rebuilds and major accessory fit outs of trucks mainly used in the mining industry that include Explosive Trucks, New Trucks, Tipper Trucks and Water Carts.

Our client has recently been awarded several ongoing contracts and is seeking an experienced Trade Qualified Lead Hand Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to assist the Workshop Supervisor.

Working Hours & Location

• Location: Bibra Lake
• Working Days: Monday to Friday
• Standard Working Hours: 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM (May Vary)

Leading Hand – Main Responsibilities

As the Workshop Leading Hand you will be supporting the Workshop Supervisor where you will be predominately Working on the Tools 80% with Admin 20%.

You will be carrying out the following Lead Hand Duties;

• Supervising 5 to 10 team members that include HV Mechanics, Fabricators, Auto Electricians & Trades Assistants
• Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor
• Attending Weekly Management Meetings & Providing essential input
• Reviewing current jobs, planning, scheduling & prioritizing job tasks
• Conducting Pre-Starts every morning – running through safety & delegating job tasks to team members
• Delegating Job Tasks to team, members providing Technical Knowledge, Guidance, Work Techniques & Safety Procedures for specific jobs
• Locating & organizing parts & materials for daily jobs & issuing items to team members
• Continually monitoring team members work progress & productivity ensuring jobs are completed in allocated time frames
• Providing guidance & technical knowledge on jobs team members are struggling with or are running behind on
• Quality Control while work is in progress & thoroughly inspecting completed jobs for sign off
• Managing in-house tool stores & issuing tools to team members when required as well as tracking that all tools have been returned & are good order
• Receiving Parts & Material deliveries & checking that Invoice matches delivery & updating inhouse system
• Updating in-house workshop system regularly
• Training new staff on in-house software system & procedures

Mechanical Responsibilities

As you will be working on the tools approximately 80% of the time the work generally covers;

• Accessory Fitting on New Trucks – Mainly Volvo & Scania
• Major Repair & Overhaul / Rebuild of MPU (Explosive Trucks)
• New Build of Side Tipper Trailers, Water Carts & Explosive Plant
• The main mechanical work responsibilities on the trucks may include;
• Diesel Engine
• Fuel Systems – Pumps & Injectors
• Lubrication Systems
• Cooling Systems
• Alternators & Starter Motors
• Braking Systems
• Drivelines
• Axles & Wheel Ends
• Suspension
• Steering
• Chassis

You may also work on Explosive plant which may include;

• Hydraulic Systems
• Pneumatic Systems
• Pumps
• Pipe Spools
• Valves
• Augers
• Hoppers

Accessory fitting may include;

• Chassis Extensions
• Tool Carriers
• Spare Wheel Holders
• Additional Fuel & Water Tanks
• Turn Tables
• Lights, Radios, Tracking Systems.

About the Candidate

Ideally, we are seeking a candidate that has at least 1 year of experience as a Lead Hand ideally in a Truck workshop as well as at least 5 years experience working as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic especially on trucks.

Possessing a relevant trade qualification is essential where we will consider the following Mechanical Trades or similar across the following;

• Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
• Heavy Diesel Mechanics
• Heavy Duty Fitters

Remuneration

This is a Temp to Perm role where initially you will be working through Staff-Net on a casual basis.  After 3 to 6 months (Potentially earlier) and if you prove to have great technical skills, a positive attitude and work well with the team you will be signed over to Perm on our client books, details are below.

• Casual Pay Rate through Staff-Net: $55.00 to $70.00 Per Hour + Super (Flat) – Paid Weekly
• Perm Rates: $50.00 to $60.00 Per Hour + Super + OT + Leave Entitlements
