Monash University is seeking an exceptional academic leader to join the Monash Medical School as Associate Professor/ Professor and Deputy Head of School (Education-Focused). This continuing professorial appointment includes a three-year term as Deputy Head of School, with opportunity for renewal. Reporting to the Deputy Dean of Medicine, you will provide high-level strategic leadership and academic oversight across the Monash Medical School, contributing to the development of executive strategy and representing the School in national and international forums.

You will:

  • Lead strategic educational initiatives aligned with University and Faculty goals, driving innovation in teaching, curriculum design, and student learning outcomes.
  • Oversee accreditation processes for the medical program, working closely with clinical and pre-clinical leads, curriculum heads, and assessment teams.
  • Chair the admissions and selection reference group, providing academic oversight and ensuring excellence in student recruitment and selection.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with clinical schools, hospital networks, and health service providers to enhance vocational and pre-vocational training.
  • Represent Monash Medical School in jurisdictional and Commonwealth-level forums, influencing policy and advancing medical education priorities.
  • Support staff development and team leadership, including recruitment, performance management, and equitable workload distribution.
  • Drive continuous improvement through quality assurance, course evaluation, and strategic contributions to the School's advisory board.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a dynamic and accomplished leader with:

  • A doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing, recognised internationally as a leading authority in medical education or a related discipline.
  • Proven leadership experience in medical education, including strategic planning, operational oversight, and stakeholder engagement across academic, health, and government sectors.
  • Expertise in academic governance, with a track record of influencing curriculum, policy, and institutional strategy through collaborative leadership.
  • Strong clinical program oversight, with experience liaising with healthcare teams and ensuring alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Innovative teaching practices, demonstrated excellence in curriculum development, course design, and educational scholarship.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with medical professionals, academic staff, and students.
  • A sustained record of research and publication in educational or disciplinary fields, with presentations at international conferences and contributions to national or global education policy.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and compliance, ensuring all activities meet legislative and institutional standards.
