Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in 1977 and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market.
The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project - a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of new intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines.
Combined local and international design teams and suppliers will work together to ensure the delivery of manufacturing requirements and associated documentation to ensure that train sets locally manufactured in Australia meet the design, compliance, manufactuability, reliability, maintainability and safety specifications for the trains operational life for a minimum of at least 35 years.

Role Overview
Responsible for ensuring the electrical systems of the NIF (Mariyung) fleet meet the required quality standards and support all activities performed in the delivery & presentation of the fleet for Provisional Acceptance (PA) to the Customer, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) prior to entering Revenue Service.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Safety: Operate in a safe manner, following established processes & procedures and having an overall awareness of your own and your colleague's safety. Follow the Company mantra – Always Time for Safety.
- Electrical Testing: Conduct comprehensive electrical tests on rail vehicles, including insulation resistance, continuity, and voltage drop tests.
- Commissioning: Participate in the commissioning process, ensuring all electrical systems are functioning correctly and in accordance with specifications.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and fault find electrical faults, identifying and rectifying problems efficiently.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of test results, troubleshooting procedures, and commissioning activities.
- Quality Control: Adhere to quality control standards and ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other team members, including engineers, technicians, and other support staff.
- Continuous Improvement: Constructively challenge the norm and promote improvement initiatives
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Requirements
- Technical Education: TAFE Certificate, Diploma or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical testing and commissioning, in the rail industry
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and testing equipment. Proficiency in using electrical test instruments (e.g., multimeters) ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- IT Knowledge and skills: Basic programming skills (e.g. PLC programming) and the ability to upload software / download logs)
- Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to identify and resolve complex electrical issues
- Safety Awareness: Strong safety consciousness and adherence to safety protocols
