About the Role
WeKare is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive NDIS Community DevelopmentCoordinator to lead and strengthen inclusive community development initiatives for NDIS participants and families.
This role focuses on engaging with local stakeholders, Aboriginal community leaders, families, and service providers to promote NDIS awareness, improve service access, and support the co-creation of community-led programs.
You will also play a key role in identifying grant opportunities and assisting with fundingapplications to support the development of sustainable, culturally safe community activities and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain respectful, culturally sensitive relationships with participants, families, and local Aboriginal communities.
- Facilitate workshops, forums, and information sessions to improve NDIS awareness and community readiness.
- Identify service gaps and collaborate with local stakeholders to design solutions that promote inclusion.
- Support local organisations to become more disability-confident and inclusive in their practices.
- Promote WeKare's values and services throughout the region, building trust and visibility.
- Work alongside support coordinators and allied professionals to connect participants with appropriate supports.
- Identify relevant grant and funding opportunities to support community projects.
- Assist in writing and submitting grant applications in collaboration with the team and community partners.
- Monitor and report on community engagement outcomes and feedback.
Key Focus Areas of This Role
- Working with community — not doing "for" or "to" community
- Co-creating culturally safe, community-led activities and programs
- Prioritising trust-building, listening, and long-term partnerships with Aboriginal families and organisations
- Supporting the wellbeing of NDIS participants and families in Aboriginal communities
- Assisting with grant writing to fund community-led initiatives
Essential Criteria
- Experience in community development, disability support, or related human services work.
- Understanding of the NDIS, person-centred approaches, and disability inclusion.
- Strong cultural knowledge of Alice Springs and Central Australian Aboriginal communities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and community engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to remote communities when required.
- High level of cultural competence and sensitivity.
- Current NT Driver's Licence and Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
Desirable
- Qualifications in Community Development, Disability, Social Work, or a related field.
- Experience working with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) or similar.
- Demonstrated experience or interest in grant writing or fundraising.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Experience with project coordination, consultation, and co-design processes.
