The Dean provides academic leadership at GBC, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes in line with TEQSA threshold standards and higher education best practices. The role encompasses academic leadership, governance, quality assurance, compliance, strategic planning, financial management, research and innovation, and external engagement.
The Dean is accountable for fostering a culture of academic excellence, integrity, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement, while ensuring strong alignment with GBC's mission and corporate strategy.
Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
Provide strategic direction for academic programs and initiatives.
Lead and mentor academic and professional staff to maintain teaching excellence and enhance student outcomes.
Represent the College at the Academic Board, Governing Board, and relevant committees.
Academic Quality
Ensure academic programs comply with TEQSA threshold standards and industry benchmarks.
Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and continuous improvement frameworks.
Prepare GBC for TEQSA and other regulatory audits at all times.
Compliance and Governance
Ensure the College operates in full compliance with TEQSA standards, the Higher Education Standards Framework HESF 2021, ESOS Act and all other relevant Australian laws, regulations and accreditation requirements.
Maintain policies, reporting and governance structures that meet internal and external audit expectations.
Be audit ready at all times at any given point in time.
Curriculum Development
Oversee development, review, and delivery of programs and courses.
Lead research and business cases for new courses/qualifications, ensuring market demand, regulatory compliance and financial viability.
Staff Management and Performance
Oversee recruitment, induction, professional development and appraisal of academic staff.
Monitor performance and manage underperformance with fairness and accountability.
Work collaboratively with the Registrar on admissions and student recruitment processes.
Qualifications
You are an experienced academic leader with a deep commitment to quality education, continuous improvement, student success and taking on challenges. You will bring:
- A PhD qualification
in a relevant discipline. - Proven senior-level experience in higher education academic leadership.
- Deep understanding of TEQSA and the Australian regulatory landscape.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people management skills.
- An inclusive, forward-thinking mindset with a passion for innovation and excellence.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
