Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join our growing team on a permanent full-time basis.
About the Role
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide expert psychiatric nursing care within the Macalister Aged Person's Mental Health Unit. The role encompasses both direct and indirect care, contributing to the Acute Mental Health Unit and Psychogeriatric Nursing Home. You will demonstrate advanced practice in aged mental health nursing, with strong decision-making and clinical competencies. In this role, you will provide leadership, enhance education and professional development, and ensure adherence to the NMBA Nurse Practitioner standards of practice.

Key Responsibilities:
Direct and Indirect Care:
- Provide clinical care and treatment oversight in collaboration with GPs for Macalister Nursing Home residents.
- Support nursing staff with complex care of consumers in the Acute Mental Health Unit.
- Deliver comprehensive assessments and diagnostics within the endorsed scope of practice.
- Prescribe treatments and make referrals to other health services as needed.
- Lead multidisciplinary team meetings with GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists, and nursing staff.
- Develop and implement strategies for managing older individuals with mental health and co-morbid conditions.
- Oversee patient flow and coordinate care across community teams, external providers, and discharge planning.
Leadership:
- Provide professional support and mentorship for staff.
- Represent staff interests in committees and meetings.
- Promote the safety and well-being of staff members.
- Support the continuous professional development of all team members.
- Lead and manage cross-organisational projects and portfolios.
Quality Improvement:
- Train staff in data collection, documentation, and care planning.
- Lead and promote quality improvement and research initiatives.
- Facilitate collaboration in policy and procedure development and individual treatment approaches.
- Ensure compliance with internal clinical documentation and meet Health Service Agreement targets.
- Promote program evaluation and research to improve service delivery.

Key Selection Criteria
Qualifications/Registrations:
Essential:
- Endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Division 1 or 3 Registered Nurse with post-basic qualifications in psychiatric nursing, and a Master's level Nurse Practitioner qualification (or equivalent).
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications in management or research.
- Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.
- Membership of a professional nursing organisation.
Experience/Knowledge:
Essential:
- At least 5 years of senior nursing experience with a commitment to recovery-oriented care.
- Engaged in clinical supervision.
- Competency in utilising computer technology.
Desirable:
- Experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of the Aged Care Act and related standards.
