Lead Project Controller | Renewable Energy | Large Utilities Company

  • Location: Sydney predominantly, with some travel to Central West NSW
  • Engagement: Initial short term contract with possibility of permanency
  • Rate: $1400 - $1600 p/d inc super (may be negotiable on experience)
Primary Purpose:

Provide expert project controls services across complex energy and renewables infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on high-voltage substation and transmission line construction. Lead cost and schedule functions from tender through to delivery, ensuring accurate forecasting, governance compliance, and performance reporting to support successful project outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage all aspects of project time and cost controls across large energy infrastructure projects
  • Deliver accurate tender schedules and baseline programs using Primavera P6 and MS Project
  • Oversee cost tracking, budget phasing, forecasting and monthly reporting using SAP and Power BI
  • Conduct schedule analysis, identify critical path risks, and lead mitigation strategies
  • Support EOT claims, forensic planning, risk workshops, and commercial protection activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and controls governance frameworks
  • Provide SME-level advice and support across portfolio projects
  • Mentor and support junior controllers and contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with internal teams and external contractors to manage scope, cost and risk
  • Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, providing accurate reports and insights
Essential Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Senior Project Controller on energy or renewables infrastructure projects
  • High voltage (132kV+) experience in substation and/or transmission line construction (greenfield and brownfield preferred)
  • Expert in planning tools – Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project
  • Advanced knowledge of cost/schedule systems – SAP, Power BI, Excel
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to drive improvements, interrogate data, and deliver portfolio-level insights
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction or related discipline
  • Understanding of PMBOK principles and project governance
