At Bara Barang, we build and deliver specialised services to empower Aboriginal young people with cultural affirmation and connection to cultural education, employment and training.
We are currently looking for an experienced Mentor to help us deliver one of our key programs, Make Tomorrow in Manufacturing, which isa unique co-designed initiative between the Central Coast Aboriginal community and the manufacturing sector, providing culturally safe entry pathways into manufacturing & related industries.
As a mentor, you will use a mentoring approach to support our local Aboriginal apprentices, trainees, and learners in vocational courses who are entering the workforce in manufacturing and related industries. You will also work with employers, training organisations and industry partners to support our young Aboriginal participants to complete their qualifications and achieve success at work, whilst setting the foundations for them to build a meaningful working career.
If successful, you will be part of the rewarding journey that supports Aboriginal identity, cultural education and the connection to prosperous careers for Aboriginal people living in the NSW Central Coast region.
The role will be based from our office in Gosford NSW, although will require travel across the Central Coast region.

About you
We are looking for a dedicated, community-driven person who has great communication skills, is results-orientated and can demonstrate experience in engaging youth, utilising community and business networks and creating career pathways.
You will have experience in supporting participants in vocational and employment programs (or similar), with a demonstrated track record of achieving results. You must have a commitment to improving the lives of Aboriginal young people and their families, as well as a good sense of accountability and self-awareness, being well grounded in culture.
Essential criteria
· Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of challenges and issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and youth.
· Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
· Demonstrated track record achieving results in mentoring roles, employment and training services, recruitment or in a similar role.
· Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employers and industry groups, creating potential employment pathways and opportunities.
· Ability to maintain accurate records on a database and input data on participant progress daily.
· Ability to work within a culturally safe and supportive work environment.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to work within a team environment to promote all our services and ensure quality customer experiences.
· Current Drivers Licence.
· Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
· Satisfactory National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
· Qualifications and/or experience in Aboriginal Mentoring, Employment, Training, Education or vocational/trade/industry background.
· Trauma informed case work experience will be looked at favourably.
Remuneration
This position is being paid as classification level 4.1 of the Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Services Industry Award (award MA
