The Senior Technical Specialist – Crushing Equipment will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for all crusher products within the business. This role requires an understanding of crushing principles, design theory, and operational performance to provide expert technical guidance across the full equipment lifecycle.

In addition, the role will capture and relay customer requirements, industry trends, and technological advancements into the organization, driving customer-focused product solutions and continuous improvement. As such, the role will be a hybrid of technical support, engineering liaison and onsite customer presence

Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:

Role Purpose – To support the Weir Minerals business by providing:

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to Weir's zero-harm behaviors in support of the drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
  • Act as the primary technical authority on crushing equipment, supporting internal teams, customers, and external partners.
  • Provide expert support in field trials, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Oversee disassembly, inspection and refurbishment of crushing equipment to OEM specifications on key projects. (Working beside the service team)
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and OEM specifications
  • Work with sales during the opportunity phases, providing technical expertise to strengthen proposals, particularly in brown field situations.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand operational needs to help Weir recommend process and equipment improvements.
  • Capture and communicate customer insights, market trends, and process changes to influence product development.
  • Be customer facing and provide support to engineering and service teams.
  • Mentor and develop Weir colleagues to strengthen technical expertise across the organization.

Highly Desirable

  • Formal OEM Crusher Training (e.g., Metso, FLSmidth, Sandvik).
  • Broad knowledge and hands-on experience with crusher technology.
  • Proven experience in the mining industry, particularly comminution processes.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to analyse complex problems and deliver effective solutions.
  • Experience working with customers, engineering, service teams, etc.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

A minimum of eight to ten years' relevant technical experience.

Bachelor's degree in engineering or extensive in-field experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write reports and deliver presentations.

Mathematical:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Intermediate to advanced MS Office (Excel and Word), Email

Physical Demands:

Passing of Weir Medical requirements to include, Standing and walking for up to 12 hours per day. Forklift driving, repetitive upper and lower limb use.

Work Environment:

Loud, outdoor weather conditions, work in high places and confined spaces. Appropriate PPE to be worn at all times.
