About the role

Clarence Street, Mater Young Adult Health Centre is hiring a passionate and experienced Youth Substance Worker. The role of Youth Substance Worker at Clarence Street in South Brisbane involves providing support and interventions to young people aged 13-25 who are experiencing harms related to substance use. This position is part of a Day Program team located in our Area 40 space, offering activities and interventions while case managing a group of young people to reduce alcohol and drug-related harms. This is a permanent, full-time position, working 38 hours per week.

Salary range: $ $52.07 per hour (Health Practitioner Level 2) plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits

What You'll Be Doing

As a Youth Substance Worker, you will:

  • Deliver youth drug and alcohol interventions, including intake assessments, brief interventions, and case management
  • Provide individual counselling, advocacy and support to young people participating in the Day Program and attending the drop in space consistent with harm reduction principles
  • Facilitate group activities and individual support planning for young people who are accessing Area 40 for recreational, social and artistic activities
  • Maintain clinical practice according to the developmental needs of young people
  • Demonstrate understanding of contemporary treatment modalities for young people impacted by alcohol and other drugs
  • Contribute to a safe, supportive environment for young people and colleagues
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team activities and quality improvement initiatives

About you

To be successful in your application for this position, it is essential that you have:

  • A Diploma qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs/Youth Work/Community Services or a relevant Human Services field
  • A current Blue Card
  • Queensland C Class driver's license for operating organizational vehicles
  • A willing to participation in an on-call roster for after-hours support
