The Motor Mechanic is responsible for carrying out a wide range of vehicle servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure the highest standards of safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction. This role combines technical expertise with customer service, supporting JAX Tyres & Auto's reputation for delivering trusted, professional, and high-quality automotive care.

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent recognised qualification).

· Current Tradesperson Licence (state equivalent).

· Valid Australian Driver's Licence.

· Current First Aid Certificate (desirable).

· Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical documentation.

· Good communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to customers.

Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.

Work Experience:

Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years' hands-on work experience as a Motor Mechanic, with proven skills in vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Light Mechanical

· Diagnose, test, and repair mechanical and electrical faults in vehicles, engines, braking, suspension, and steering systems.

· Dismantle, repair, and reassemble engine assemblies, transmissions, and other major components in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

· Complete JAX vehicle inspection reports for all customer vehicles, ensuring all completed work and recommendations are accurately documented and communicated.

· Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, wheel rotations, and tune-ups.

· Acquire and fit vehicle parts and accessories as required, applying sound commercial judgment.

· Conduct thorough maintenance and inspections to ensure vehicles meet roadworthiness, safety, and environmental standards.

· Carry out tyre services, including fitting, balancing, rotation, puncture repairs, and wheel alignments.

Safety

· Operate tools, hoists, diagnostic equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.

· Follow established safety practices including lifting techniques, PPE use, and hazard reporting.

· Identify and correct unsafe conditions in the workshop, and report any unserviceable equipment to the Manager.

· Assist in maintaining store facilities, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.

Customer Experience

· Provide clear, fair, and timely repair quotes and estimates.

· Translate technical issues into plain language for customers, ensuring they understand required and recommended work.

· Build customer trust and loyalty by offering preventative maintenance advice and professional after-service support.

· Assist sales and service staff with customer enquiries as needed.

Other Responsibilities

· Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and invoices in compliance with JAX and industry standards.

· Guide and mentor apprentices in a professional and supportive manner.

· Undertake other reasonable duties including wheel aligning, fitting, and balancing tyres as required.

· Contribute to the smooth daily operations of the workshop, working collaboratively with the team to achieve customer service excellence.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $78,000.00 – $81,000.00 per year
