- Shape finances across diverse entities with real impact
- Collaborative family office, supportive team
- Flexible role offering ownership, growth, and variety
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Accountant to join a family office based in Sydney 3-4 days per week. This role offers you the chance to take full ownership of accounting activities across a diverse group of entities, working closely with a supportive and knowledgeable team. You will play a pivotal part in managing the financial affairs of a family with an extensive investment portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insightful reporting. The organisation values flexibility, collaboration, and professional growth, making this an ideal environment for someone who thrives in a communal setting and is passionate about delivering high-quality financial stewardship. If you are looking for a position where your expertise will be truly valued and your contributions will have a direct impact on the success of the group, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
What you'll do:
As Senior Accountant, you will become an integral member of the team responsible for managing the day-to-day finances of a family office with varied investments. Your role will involve taking charge of all accounting activities across several companies and trusts, from preparing comprehensive management reports to ensuring timely completion of statutory accounts. Working closely with the CFO, you will help drive accuracy in financial data while also contributing ideas for process enhancements. Your ability to maintain meticulous records using Xero will be essential as you support both routine operations and special projects. Success in this position means not only meeting compliance requirements but also providing meaningful analysis that supports informed decision-making throughout the group.
- Oversee all accounting functions across multiple companies and trusts within the group, ensuring accurate financial management and compliance at every level.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer and work as part of a small, dependable team to manage daily accounting operations efficiently and effectively.
- Prepare detailed performance reports and regular management accounts that provide valuable insights into the financial health of each entity.
- Complete annual financial statements and tax returns for all group entities, maintaining strict adherence to relevant regulations and deadlines.
- Manage month-end close processes, including reconciliations and general ledger maintenance for each company and trust under management.
- Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in Xero or other relevant systems, supporting transparency and ease of access for stakeholders.
- Assist with ad hoc projects such as process improvements or system upgrades that enhance efficiency within the finance function.
- Support audit processes by preparing required documentation and liaising with external auditors as needed to facilitate smooth reviews.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure best practice standards are met.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members when required, fostering an atmosphere of learning and shared success.
What you bring:
The successful Senior Accountant will bring substantial experience gained from working within family offices or handling complex multi-entity structures. Your technical expertise will be complemented by your ability to communicate clearly with both internal team members and external advisors. You will have developed robust problem-solving skills through years spent navigating intricate accounting scenarios involving companies and trusts. Familiarity with Xero is essential; your comfort with technology will help streamline workflows while maintaining accuracy. Beyond technical prowess, your approachability ensures you can nurture positive relationships within a small team environment-sharing insights freely so everyone benefits from your depth of knowledge. Your understanding of current Australian regulations means you can confidently oversee compliance matters while always seeking ways to improve existing practices.
- Hold full accounting qualifications (CA/CPA or equivalent) with over ten years' experience at senior level within similar environments.
- Demonstrate proven expertise working in or servicing family offices or multi-entity structures, showing sensitivity to their unique needs.
- Showcase advanced proficiency with Xero accounting software alongside strong general IT skills relevant to modern finance functions.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to collaborate effectively within small teams while building trusted relationships across stakeholders.
- Display exceptional attention to detail combined with strong organisational abilities that allow you to manage competing priorities smoothly.
- Possess up-to-date knowledge of Australian accounting standards, tax legislation, and regulatory requirements applicable to private groups.
- Bring experience preparing consolidated financial statements as well as individual entity accounts for companies and trusts alike.
- Have a track record of supporting audit processes through thorough documentation preparation and clear communication with external parties.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process optimisation within finance operations.
- Show willingness to mentor less experienced colleagues by sharing knowledge generously in support of collective goals.
What sets this company apart:
This family office stands out for its warm, inclusive culture where every team member's contribution is genuinely valued. With a focus on collaboration rather than hierarchy, you'll find yourself supported by colleagues who are committed not just to professional excellence but also to creating an environment where people feel respected and encouraged. The organisation offers flexible working arrangements designed around trust and mutual respect-enabling you to balance personal commitments without compromising on quality or output. Professional development is actively encouraged through knowledge sharing sessions and opportunities for cross-training within the finance function. Here, your voice matters: new ideas are welcomed enthusiastically as part of an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. If you're seeking more than just another job-if you want somewhere you can grow personally while making a real difference-this is an outstanding place to build your future.
