One part time / fixed vacancy for 6 months is available.

This is a part time position for 19 hours per week. Selection will be made at the SC or SSC level depending on experience/qualifications of the successful applicant

The Role

As the Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, you will provide both inpatient and outpatient specialist paediatric cardiology care to infants, children and young adults at Royal Darwin Hospital, regional hospitals and remote communities.

You'll provide specialist paediatric cardiology advice to colleagues in geographically isolated locations, participate in routine and emergency after hours care on a roster basis and provide an after-hours consultancy service to colleagues and junior medical staff.

Royal Darwin Hospital

Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is the Northern Territory's only tertiary referral hospital and a university teaching facility with 370 beds, serving a diverse population across urban and remote regions. It provides comprehensive services in all specialty areas, including paediatric cardiology, which is part of a dynamic department focused on Indigenous health and complex tropical diseases.

The paediatric team manages inpatient wards, neonatal intensive care, and outreach clinics across 37 remote communities, treating conditions such as rheumatic heart disease and bronchiectasis. Paediatric cardiology is supported by both onsite specialists and visiting subspecialists. RDH shares its campus with the Menzies School of Health Research and Flinders NT Medical School, fostering strong links in education and research.

About you

You're a dedicated specialist who thrives in diverse settings and is committed to continuing education, teaching, and research.

To be successful you will have:

  • Eligibility for general and/or specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Completed a fellowship in Paediatric Cardiology with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving Indigenous health, with an understanding of rheumatic heart disease.

In addition to the above at the Senior Staff Specialist Clinician level you'll have:

  • Completed a minimum of six years full-time (or equivalent) service as a Staff Specialist.
