Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney's Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually.  Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 60,000 by 2041.

About the Opportunity

Strathfield Council is looking for a friendly reliable Customer Service Assistant to join our library team.

In this role, you will support day to day circulation tasks, assist customers, and help maintain welcoming service areas. If you enjoy working with people and want to contribute to a vibrant community space, this is a great opportunity to make a difference.

This is a casual position, and we are seeking a candidate with flexible availability to accommodate ad hoc shifts and the operational needs of the library.

Essential Requirements

  • Higher School Certificate and extensive practical library experience, or Higher School Certificate and experience in customer focused service delivery.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, including the ability to respond promptly and courteously to a diverse range of service needs and a good knowledge of library services, products, and collections.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and problems solving skills and ability to provide information services to a culturally diverse public.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment, individually and under limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving Council's values and organisational behaviours.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity, Workplace Health and Safety and Cultural Diversity principles.
  • A Working with Children Check number or willingness to obtain.

Desirable

  • Experience in using Library Management Systems or similar point of sale systems.
  • Valid NSW Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Knowledge of, and /or experience in local government.
